Life can feel like you're in a gutter. But there are many wonders, if you choose to seek them out.

Pretty happy with this robot I made in #Blender. Here's a rigged version with a walk cycle added.

Will #AI ever think for itself, unprompted, like a sentient being?
I don't know. But here's an illustration I just completed. Modelled, textured and rendered in #Blender. Minor post edits in Photoshop.
An homage to Auguste Rodin's Le Penseur.

Here are some of my non-digital #SciArt paintings. I don't do this stuff anymore. Maybe I should.
1. Flight of the Eagle. Pastel and acrylics
2. Global Mortification. Oil pastels
3. Beyond Magritte's Door. Acrylic
4. Aurora Planet. Acrylic.
Please reskeet

Some of my #scifi illustration.
1. Man on Mars (2019)
2. Transit City (2006)
3. Chasm (2014)
4. Global Warning (2016)
These were made long ago with #3dsmax (and #Photoshop) , before I defected to #Blender.
Please reskeet!

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· Jun 8 Earth during the Silurian Period circa 430 million years ago. The plants (they are not flowers) are called cooksonia, and were one of the first widespread land plants. The tall things (8m or 25ft) are prototaxites. Notbody is sure what they were, but may have been fungi. #sciart #blender #paleoart

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· May 18 Animation of cryovolcanism of Triton, the largest moon of Neptune. These icy geysers were observed by the Voyager 2 spacecraft. It is thought that solar heating vaporises nitrogen below a translucent surface, until the pressure builds up enough to force an eruption.

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· May 12 I'm sick of losing work to the slop machines. 30 years' experience seems to count for nothing nowadays.

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· Apr 1 Some of the various Titan illustrations I've created over the years. Titan is the largest moon in the Solar System. It's bigger even than our own Moon. It has a thick nitrogen atmosphere, and lakes of hydrocarbons.
Note: you cannot see Saturn from Titan as the atmosphere is too dense.

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· Feb 26 Latest artwork, created this afternoon in #Blender and Photoshop. I don't usually give my artworks 'poetic' titles. Usually this would be 'Tyrannosaurs Regarding comet' or something equally prosaic. But I decided to break with tradition, and named it 'Impending Doom'.

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· Feb 18 Hi, folks! Here's one of my earliest and still favourite animations, created in 3ds Max in 2011. It's shows the hellish landscape of Earth's Hadean Eon, shortly after the formation of the Moon, more than 4 billion years ago.
Who wants to go?

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· Feb 3 Gosh, I haven't done any new #paleoart in a very long time. So here's a scene I just finished, which I'm quite happy with. I modelled everything except the tress (in #Blender), then embellished it in Photoshop.

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· Jan 28 Latest #spaceart done in #Blender. A depiction of the dwarf planet and trans-Neptunian object Quaoar, as seen from the surface of its moon Weywot. Quaoar is ellipsoidal in shape and has two narrow rings around it, although they may not be visible at this resolution.

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· Jan 8 Ice spires (around 100 metres tall) on Jupiter's moon Callisto. It is thought that these formed from an ancient impact billions of years ago. They are very slowly eroding over time, the ice subliming and dust within the ice accumulating to absorb Sunlight and continue the erosion.

Animation of a type of binary star system called a DQ Her star. A white dwarf is in mutual orbit with a larger red dwarf. The strong gravitational field of the dense white dwarf draws hot gas from its companion, which forms an accretion disc around the white dwarf.

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· Jan 6 What's the best way to get seen on #Artstation? I struggle to gain traction there. Is it best to just have a portfolio page just full of individual artworks? Or is is best to create 'projects', inside of which you list multiple related artworks?

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· Jan 6 Modellers! Do any of you recall the horror models from the 70s by Aurora? Frankenstein, Mummy, etc? Some were re-released a while ago by third parties using the original molds. The first model I ever made as a kid was this Hunchback of Notre Dame so I had to buy it again. Immense fun building it!

⭐ ᗰᗩᖇᛕ ᗩ. ǤᗩᖇᒪIᑕᛕ ⭐@markgarlick· Jan 4 I'm fed up with all of these stupid names for different 'types' of full Moon. Wolf? And the media just regurgitates this cack ad nauseum. The Moon's distance from the Earth varies by about 11%. You would never notice unless you could compare both closest and farthest Moons side by side. #supermoon
