I only rarely see lifers at home but I was lucky to travel to east Asia in June where I saw an Amur Paradise-flycatcher. A juvenile Killdeer is taking a step through the grass. The young bird has many colors of a mature killdeer but is fuzzy all over. The young 'un has a black stripe from eye to eye around the back of the head, and a black necklace. It is missing the black forehead stripe that makes an adult so distinguished.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BestOfJune26, a distant #PheasantTailedJacana at the northern tip of its range.

Too far off for much detail, this was the most interesting, hence "best", bird of the month. The range of the jacana includes India and Southeast Asia but extends along the coast up to Hebei Province and Beijing, where I saw it at the Shahe Reservoir. You can see the golden nape set against a white head.
