Doing a children’s book project for class and not being a youth librarian means I pick a classic I loved as a kid. I have my qualms with it theoretically now (the MLK comparison in the author’s note is…not my fav) but it’s still an amazing book!

Cross posting this w/ alt text from a librarian forum to here in case anyone here has advice from a non-library perspective. I’m just drowning rn and in need of more advice than my therapist’s typical “well what do YOU think you should do?”

Hey all,
So I'm in a bit of a pickle and I'm looking for advice.
I'm about to start an internship on top of MLIS classes and a variable-hours part time job. My current class is 10-12 hours/week of work, which I'll be adding to soon with a 5 week summer intensive of probably a similar amount of work, on top of my 15-20 hour/week part time job which I'Il be adding the internship on top of. The internship is paid but it's less than 1k/month and my other job is cutting hours more and more so bills are getting tight.
My question is: how the hell do I manage all this?? I'm juggling like 3 different schedules right now alongside having to feel like I'm drowning in classwork, which is only getting more and more intense and time-consuming; not to mention the every day issues of being a chronically ill adult...l'm a semester away from graduating so I don't want to take a gap or anything but it feels like I'm barely keeping my head above water and something's going to have to give.

Into Oblivion by Lamb of God: After the singles, I was expecting a bit more but honestly, still a banger of an album! It hits on most fronts I want it to hit on. I honestly just find myself going back to earlier records more these days because…politics. But yeah! Great record nonetheless! 7/10!

Something From Nothing by Alison Roman: Amazing cookbook! Read it cover to cover like I normally do for cookbooks and she had me laughing and thinking hard the whole way. 10/10 for Alison Roman’s latest cookbook!

Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell: Meh? I’m not too far into it and maybe it’s the audiobook narrator but I just don’t get it yet. Maybe I need to give it time. 6/10 so far…but we’ll see if that improves.

Lonely Is The Muse by Halsey: Where to begin with this record?? My goodness! Heavy handed in its ideas and metaphors from top to bottom but absolutely soul crushing and tear jerking in the best way. Halsey knows how to do it and they do it so well. 10/10 record!

Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally by Harry Styles: I quite enjoy this record. It’s lively when it needs to be and subtle in other places. Overall 9/10 for a solid record from Harry!

Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh: First of all, severe content warnings aplenty for this entire book. I’m about 1/3 of the way through and it’s already quite heavy. But very much enjoying it aside from that fact? The characters are unlikable in the best ways and the writing is well done.

lol same! It’s actually a science of baking book with added amazing recipes for the nerdy bakers out there. Like the Bill Nye of baking! I spent the entire 3 week period I had it checked out from the library mainly reading her section on how flour works and taking literal notes.

• Softer wheat works well for cakes, cookies, and biscuits, but when it comes to bread, we tend to reach for imported flower with a higher proportion of gluten.
Kernels of wheat have three parts: the endosperm, the bran, and the germ When milled, wheat kernels are cracked and finely ground then sifted in stages, becoming more and more refined each time. Eventually the brain and germ are entirely filtered out, resulting in white flour
• This white wheat flour is almost entirely composed of the endosperm, which is rich in protein.
• Flours containing all three parts are termed "whole wheat flour", which contains most of the fiber and rich minerals from the wheat in the bran and germ.
~ Lets Talk Gluten!
• One of the ways we categorize flour is in relation to its strength.
• This can be uncovered by looking at it's protein content
• When we add water, proteins emerge from hibernation in their dehydrated state to create gluten.

Overall it was an amazing experience. I love a good art museum and you should definitely stop by this one and then stop by the downtown Slover Library that’s a part of the Norfolk Public Library system for an amazing library experience!

It’s been a long road but I’ve finally rounded the corner and come to a stop. Now it’s about setting my GPS for new places. ⚓️

Τετελεσται (It is finished). Grief and heartache have defined the last couple of years for me. The loss of my marriage and the loss of my father combined for a terribly ugly storm. But it Christ who rebukes the storm and says “Be still!” It’s been a long couple of years, but I hope to move forward in grace and wonder and what comes next.
