Not at all a surprising outcome. China's been disciplined and strategic while Trump changes policies every month. In the last 18 months the U.S. has pretty definitively dropped the ball on future-looking energy, transportation, and education policies and they're the odds-on favorite to win on AI.
Lutnick and Rubio must take tranquilizers when appearing with Trump so their eyes don't bug out. Even so they sometimes break.
I thought this might be a clever, meta headline about how we're always waiting for headlines. No, it's just the NYTimes making a gaffe on its homepage.
I don't know why we're supposed to take much stock in the stock markets. Their movements don't seem to indicate any kind of long-term intelligence. They increasingly seem to just be a marker of the confidence of an oligarch class in keeping the corruption going.
pressing a shift key uses minimal energy but if you calculate it over a lifetime you'll find the average thought leader wastes 7.8 years with caps. you could spend that time using ai to write your next unemployment memo. next up: ditching punctuation andmaybespaces and whtbtvwls
Had to work in a new-to-me library in Vincentown NJ this afternoon. They have a children's building located in an old firehouse. It's the only open building while the main building (in an old bank) is renovated. I had the 2nd floor to myself and hung out with stuffed bears. Cuteness 10/10.
The diet is more widely known under it's other name, veganism (a word which doesn't even show up in the article). www.nytimes.com/2025/11/04/w...
A neighborhood visitor at my Quaker meeting's halloween truck-or-treat this Sunday told us she had heard that our burial ground was a pet cemetery!
Batsto Country Living Fair 2025 had all the normal fun (apple cider donuts, cool steam powered stuff) but also included a family kayaking outing and a cute turtle rescue.
An over-the-air update yesterday to my 18 year old Hyundai has brought a revolutionary anti-theft design feature: a handle-less door knob!
Gregory is back in Scout Life magazine for the second time (third if you include his sister’s joke that was submitted under his name).
Lake and old dam works on the Great Swamp Branch at Wiltseys Mill just east of Hammonton NJ. Seen on my evening bike ride.
After visiting the John Woolman Memorial this weekend I stopped by the Shinn Curtis Log House in My Holly NJ. Built in 1712, it gained so many additions over the centuries that the original house was totally encased and lost. It was rediscovered when the outside house was being demolished in 1967.
In this week's "Quaker Ranter" newsletter, I talk with Ron Marullo about his path to conscientious objection in 1969. I also share how I went through my own discernment around military service almost two decades later. us17.campaign-archive.com?u=7e77489ebc...
Happy 20th to Francis. I took him out to breakfast at Gilcrests, then we headed to the mountain bike trails of Estell Manor Park. Following along behind him I realized just how bad off his bike was so we got a new (old) bike. Then home for Royale Crown ice cream cake.
I think I randomly saw the TOMEX+ atmospheric laser experiment while walking the dogs. www.nasa.gov/blogs/wallop...
I've listened to park music playlists too and there used to be some radio stations (they seem to come and go). Also, my favorite Disney hat ever.
It likely was more imposing (and bluer?) once upon a time. It’s by an intersection of Lenape trails and was a popular meeting spot for centuries. The 1930 aerial and modern lidar show a lot of interesting features nearby, including networks of trails and a bend in the Egg Harbor River.
Greetings from the famous South Jersey Blue Hole, whose legends eclipse the actual body of water. Some include: it has no bottom; people swimming there have been drowned by being pulled down by the Jersey Devil; it is cold but ice free year round. #southjersey #bluehole
Rain has brought water to the often-dry creek in our back yard. I hope it wakes up the frog eggs so we have a lot of little hoppers in a few weeks.
I have enough pictures for a mushroom series too. #southjersey #pinebarrens.
Stuck in a line at Lowe’s now but I’ll share some more golden-hour pics from yesterday’s run in the #southjersey #pinebarrens.
