Calgary has a bit of a Perth/Adelaide feel to it. Staying on the edge of the city centre, next to Prince's Island Park. Bow River runs through, on its way to Hudson Bay. Calgary grew from oil. Petronas HQ overlooks the park. Some nice houses on the opposite bank, overlooking the city.

Columbia Icefield. Amazing to walk on ice 140m deep and moving 5cm each day. But..... When we visited 25 years ago it was 216sq kms. Now 95! That's a frightening rate of recession. Incredible drive up there though. Some stunning scenery and mountains on a scale we get nowhere near in the UK.

Emerald Lake, BC. We saw a black bear on the way there and an Osprey when we arrived. Beautiful spot in The Rockies.

There are some similarities in that he liked mountains, most of which were in Alaska like Mt McKinley. It looks a bit like this pic taken a few mins after we took off from Vancouver.

This evening the views are stunning.

Mount Rundle, in Banff, Alberta, today from our balcony. Smoke from wildfires in BC was thick when we arrived in Calgary yesterday. And hung in the air all the way to Banff. Half the Rockies disappeared from view. Smoke is blowing away this evening. No fires are allowed to be lit in the area!

Should have seen the sky in Toronto on Saturday. It was brown and mucky. All from the hundreds of wildfires. Two sunny days followed. Now big thunderstorms this morning.

Where am I?

My oldest daughter wrote this when they went out to Croatia in 2018. She was 11. I told her to get used to it. She's 18 now but the little one is now 11 and is feeling it tonight. I detached myself in 2010 after that dreadful World Cup in S Africa. Cathartic.

Muggy day at The Village Ground. Whitburn are 42-2, chasing 135 to beat Lanchester. It's doing a bit though. Quite a bit of swing out there.

It was a lovely morning on the Roker Riviera. But a sea fret has pushed in and everything has gone white. It's still warm though. The river is out there somewhere.

Had a few people over at the weekend and having a few for tea today too. 25th wedding anniversary as well.
