It's 92 degrees and climbing. I'm going to pick up a few groceries if I can see through the smoke. The bike I choose uses an electric motor to give each pedal stroke a little extra oomph. It can tote 425 pounds of cargo and people. Tell me again how we can't replace car trips with bicycles.
My boyfriend is taking the METRO Orange Line for the first time today, after transferring from the elegant and oh-so-frequent B Line. Let us toast visionaries like @stinamo.bsky.social and @metrotransitmn.bsky.social for transforming Twin Cities transit so beautifully over the last decade.
After a long hike in the very early morning apocalyptic heat, a very good girl needs a dust bath ❤️🌞
There's going to be so much ink about this story, but the only story that matters to me is that Travis Kelce is a fashion delight and I can't get enough of men in beautiful, colorful, fanciful garb.
There's an effort underway to identify and remove excess sources of air pollution in Frogtown. This map caught my eye. I-94 is killing people. @mndot.mn.gov can stop killing people if it chooses.
I found a secret garden behind a sprawling brick apartment complex in the neighborhood. I imagine chairs show up there from time to time, with wine and cheese perhaps? Such a great use that isn't car parking.
We are back from circumnavigating Lake Superior. What a magnificent natural and cultural trip. The wildness of the Canadian shore, the sands of Michigan and Wisconsin, the MN waterfalls, enormous cultural history everywhere. Non-stop learning and experiencing. Takes at least 2 weeks.
Interesting to think about the great-grandparents of Tom Emmer's racist compatriots in Minnesota as the hordes of unassimilated miners in the Upper Peninsula. From the excellent National Park Service exhibit in Calumet.
Traveling in beautiful Canada and meeting so many lovely Canadians who express sadness that the United States has become an intolerant, enduringly racist state. They are literally in mourning.
The moral challenge of today is determining when it is helpful to abandon consumer choices that enrich monsters, current or historic. I'm not getting a strong start.
Good morning 🌞 What happened to Duluth's brilliant and valiant effort to remove I-35 from its Lake Superior waterfront? Was there a backlash from car-dependent travelers and a DFL beholden to transportation contractors?
Allow me to introduce the Velotric GoMad. 500 lb payload. Carries a passenger up to 176 lb on that sweet back rack. This one is a real datemobile. In amber. Oh dear! 😍 (Get me out of Watt Cycle Works before I succumb again)
The Greenway was popular tonight. METRO E Line bus rapid transit looked pretty packed. Five bikes were tied up in front of Nico's. Happy hour was buzzing. What's this you say about nobody loving Hennepin Avenue anymore?
I'm standing with my toes in a crosswalk directly across from an elementary school. I'm wearing high viz. Nobody stops. The bike lane on the other side of the road is parked up with school pickups. Everybody is driving 35. This is effing madness. @mayorher.bsky.social please get in touch.
The newsprint @startribune.com wasn't delivered this morning. Which is funny because it's always delivered, especially during vacation holds. Sadly the news is now two days old because they print it in Iowa, having closed the downtown Mpls printing plant. Guess I'll read something else this morning.
In my book Wonderful Without Religion, I make the point that normal, mainstream religious people think espousing any religion is better than none. I could not disagree more. Religion is a private, nongovernmental belief. Let's keep it that way.
Took a minute but we can finally confirm that the food at Vinai in Minneapolis is amazing.
I am so lucky to be mom to a marvelous man who makes unbelievable coffee and brioche french toast, and is very sweet, funny, fascinating, smart as heck and who shares my delight with turkeys and wildlife. Pardon my helmet hair 🪖😀❤️ Happy mothers day!
Americans will defeat any engineered traffic calming measures short of onboard speed limiters. We just did some driving on remote, incredibly challenging, wild roads (signed at 15-25 mph) and giant SUVs and pickups were still going 40+mph, and they were ANGRY. On I-15, signed at 80mph, it was 90+.
Did you know? Wood ticks prefer to start "questing" (climbing grass to find a passing host) above 40-50 degrees F. I start questing at about the same temperatures.
Lots of things we can lie to them about with all the best intentions, some bring lifelong joy, song don't 😀
