There are no bike lanes for my kids to use to ride to school, so they take the sidewalk. I worry constantly about cars backing out of driveways. There should be a better way. The city should be doing everything to get more people on bikes and out of cars. Instead, we drive our kids to their school.
I have two kids and I drive them around a lot, do errands in our car, but I also bike to work every single day, all year long. There are no bike lanes on my route from St. Clair West to Yonge. And it's terrible and full of conflict with drivers, even (especially) on back streets. We need more lanes.

LUVTOFU by Harryette Mullen (from Regaining Unconsciousness) (I love this)
—so this is a recommendation of that entire experience (stumbling upon, bookstores, leaving Toronto for the lakes and trees of Huntsville, reading while (your own) kids play in playground behind the bookstore). This book feels like it was written for me. A dad is a person who stumbles
Glad they are covering this, but WHY would @canadaland.com frame the important issue of ag-gag laws as “Why do animal rights activists believe they should have a right to lie?” (??), as opposed to asking why the government is criminalizing undercover reporting? That is such terrible framing.
This poor cyber truck parked on the sidewalk on Arlington in Toronto. Aw maybe it’s lost? How did it get stuck up on that sidewalk like that? Maybe it needs help?
Nature is healing: stumbled upon young people gathered last night for an illegal rock show (drum set, generator for amps, mics) in the local ravine, goth/punk styling, people in the grass selling ‘zines (Feminist Bitch!) and cookies and political stickers and buttons. Maybe the kids are all right??
Do you know the book Trout Fishing in America by Richard Brautigan? And its ending? Mayon[n]aise.
This is the experience of so many people who say they hate Toronto. Living in Toronto is very different than driving through or even into.
Where did you think Charlotte's effervescent writing style ("Some Pig"!) came from?? (Concrete language, for a spider.)
Yonge bike lanes on east side at St Clair totally blocked. For some reason, west side is clear. Saw two cyclists as I walked past mid-morning.
I can’t believe how terrible the bike lanes are. Davenport and Christie bike lanes are just full of snow. Bayview trail largely impassable. Rosedale Valley Road somewhat bikeable with studded tires.
Someone needs to tell the cyclists who just passed me that it’s January in Toronto and I’ve been told cycling in Toronto only occurs 4-5 months of the year
Also is this what Islington and Bloor still looks like (image a year old)? They want people to bike there?
Shana tova, everyone! Check out the incredible vegan challah my wife baked. (Context: we like to cook but are very much not bakers.) Wishing everyone a sweet new year and holding a pinch of hope today that the new year will see some building of peace in this violent world.
Rad Dad socks and Jeff Derksen’s newest (Future Works). Perfect.
