I asked Chiefs WR Rashee Rice how he would describe himself to people and fans who only know him via news stories and headlines: “I'm a father, so I take most responsibility in being a good father with my boys.” Full press conference: youtu.be/CyWNAcP_kU8?...
The Chiefs currently list Nohl Williams and L’Jarius Sneed as starters at cornerback with backups Mansoor Delane and Kristian Fulton. I asked defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo on the value of preseason depth charts and the CB snapshot as of now:
Chiefs Coach Andy Reid, TE Jake Briningstool and LG Kingsley Suamataia shared Monday what it means to have offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy back in training camp. Kingsley: “He’s crazy.”
Chiefs TE Jake Briningstool says Travis Kelce has taken him under his wing in year two, becoming a “big brother” to him on and off the field.
Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo simultaneously describes DT Peter Woods as a “thick, good looking” D-lineman who has “a ways to go,” but is a “smart, good football player.” Sounds like a guy who wants to love but he’s been hurt before. Full presser link: youtu.be/nPdnrdhkrrI
Here’s a wide-angle of all six Peter Woods reps in one-on-one drills Monday at Chiefs training camp.
Dave Toub mentioned pulling Mansoor Delane out of special teams work, although he was on the kick return unit yesterday. He also mentioned Travis Kelce playing special teams his rookie season. He played one snap, on special teams, landing on IR with a preexisting microfracture in his knee.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid’s remarks after practice Monday morning on the shooting of Mia Bieniemy, wife of Eric Bieniemy, in Virginia Sunday night. Reid said Eric has left to be with his family. Mia is stable, as is their son Eric III.
Chiefs WR Cyrus Allen on the coaching style of Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy: “They don’t play. That’s all I can say.” Allen goes on to share the lesson Reid gave him when he pulled him aside after 7-on-7 work.
You can’t see from this entire angle, but I think I might be photobombing at least three separate TV news live shots right now.
Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly officially announces the state has reached an agreement to bring the Kansas City Chiefs to Kansas. The new stadium will be in Wyandotte County and be surrounded by an entertainment district. The team’s new headquarters and practice facility will be based in Olathe, Kansas.
A surprise with Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie (knee) on the field for stretch Thursday. Not practicing: WR Rashee Rice (concussion), WR Tyquan Thornton (concussion), RT Jawaan Taylor (elbow), OT Jaylon Moore (knee) and LB Leo Chenal (shoulder).
Quick looks at Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie (knee) and RG Trey Smith (ankle) on the practice field Wednesday. WR Nikko Remigio (concussion) was also back in action.
It’s a balmy 32 degrees @GEHAField about two and a half hours before kickoff for Sunday Night Football between the Chiefs and Texans. Wind at 8 mph but looks and feels a bit more brisk than that.
Your virtual roll call indoors on Thursday for Chiefs practice. I did not see RG Trey Smith (ankle/back), RT Jawaan Taylor (pectoral) or S Chris Roland-Wallace (back).
VIDEO: Chiefs Andy Reid says LT Josh Simmons won’t practice Thursday but says the situation is “positive, not negative.” RG Trey Smith (back spasms) and RB Kareem Hunt (knee bruise) won’t practice Thursday.
Welcome to GEHA Field at Arrowhead for Sunday Night Football, Chiefs vs. Lions. Temperature 86, forecast 81 at kickoff. Winds 15-24 miles per hour. It should be an adventure tonight.
When you’re a solo multimedia journalist and you don’t accurately account for how tall Omarr Norman-Lott is before heading to the locker room and being in two places at the same time.
Longtime Chiefs public address announcer Dale Carter announced today he’s stepping down from his role with the club immediately. His “third down” call will be missed by Chiefs fans. No immediate word on his replacement.
Chiefs-Eagles will feature national anthem by Generald Wilson, a B2 Spirit Bomber flyover and Tyrann Mathieu on the drum deck. That’s a trifecta. Sign me up for that.
Hey, I know both of those guys! They are on my TV for the KSHB41 Chiefs “Countdown to Kickoff” pregame show. 41 is the Mic is everywhere.
Chiefs have officially ruled out WR Jalen Royals for Friday vs Chargers. I’m told he did not travel with the team to Brazil. Wednesday’s injury report is an estimation since team won’t practice and will be on a plane all day. Final report and game day statuses due Thursday.
Chiefs wide receivers running thru drills Sunday with Jalen Royals as an observer. Andy Reid said he was the only player not planning to practice today.
It’s the latest and greatest unofficial Chiefs depth chart for your entertainment pleasure, and as always, please no wagering.
Chiefs have signed former Washington RB Michael Wiley. He’s wearing No. 39.
Not practicing for the Chiefs today: WR Hollywood Brown (ankle), TE Jake Briningstool, OT Ethan Driskell and CB Jaylen Watson (concussion). Watson is at practice on the sideline.
Snap count visualization for the Chiefs from the inimitable @reinhardNFL. Incredibly informative. Players are listed as they entered the game, and almost exactly as how I would have ordered the depth charts.
Andy Reid explained today his reasoning for choosing to do “The Kingdom” documentary series with ESPN last season: “Well, our owner asked me to do it.”
Great news for the Chiefs on the injury front. CB Kristian Fulton (knee) is off the PUP list. LB Drue Tranquill (back) is also practicing. It’s a light work out so they will take it slow today.
