Former LibDem MP for Ludlow, & 2024 General Election candidate for South Shropshire Director, Green Planning Studio Ltd.
Calling on residents in #Ludlow today, lots of voters dismayed with the last ten years of Conservative and Labour Governments. Also more evidence of three current trends - 1) less people intending to vote Conservative than did in 2024. #SouthShropshire #shropshire #LibDems
A pleasant evening meeting voters in #AstonMunslow and #Munslow in #Corvedale. Plenty of former Conservative voters considering voting #LibDem. A lot of people worried Reform could win in South Shropshire, realise they need to vote LibDem to make sure it doesn’t happen. #SouthShropshire #Shropshire
The defences of Kamianets-Podilskyi town are also stunning but they will form a separate post. #KamianetsPodilskyiCastle #KamianetsPodilskyi #ukraine #castle #medievalcastle
Defences were enhanced in the early 15th Century with the addition of 10 towers & modernisation of existing towers. Attacked many times it appears never to have succumbed to a siege, instead being passed through treaties. #KamianetsPodilskyiCastle #KamianetsPodilskyi #ukraine #castle #medievalcastle
The first phase of the castle appears to be constructed in 14th Century, certainly the castle and town served as the capital of the Principality of Podolia, which existed in an almost independent form from 1363 to 1394. #KamianetsPodilskyiCastle #KamianetsPodilskyi #ukraine #castle #medievalcastle
When in Ukraine in May to June, we used a weekend to visit the fortified town of Kamianets-Podilskyi & its spectacular castle. It was a wet weekend so photos are not as good as I hoped. Clearly I need to pay go again! #KamianetsPodilskyiCastle #KamianetsPodilskyi #ukraine #castle #medievalcastle
After seven days of calling on local resident’s in South Shropshire in the heat, a refresh with a swim at Borth this afternoon. The water temperature was perfect. #Borth #beach #seaswimming
Great response this morning in Craven Arms. There’s a good awareness of just how close I came to beating the Conservatives last time. Local residents also understand they need to vote LibDem to beat both Reform and Conservatives. #cravenarms #shropshire #SouthShropshire #LibDems #LiberalDemocrats
Lots of support in Much Wenlock this evening & plenty of familiar faces. I lived in Much Wenlock for 18 years & still play cricket for the Town. Lots of criticism of Farage forcing a by-election in Clacton, even from ReformUK supporters. #muchwenlock #shropshire #SouthShropshire #LibDems
In the 9th century a chapel was constructed on the hill, and later enlarged into a church, but this was demolished during one of the later extensions of the Castle. An interesting castle in a beautiful location. #castle #italianalps #milano #venice
It was expanded over time and by 1250-1300 the entire hill was fortified, including the gate tower. From 1350 the castle was fought over between the Venetians and the Milanese, with it finally ending in Venetian hands after the Peace of Lodi in 1454. #castle #italianalps #milano #venice
With my feed being rather politics heavy at the moment, I thought I’d break it up with some photos of Castello Di Breno, in the Italian Alps, taken in late May this year. The castle dates to the 12th Century from when the tall tower dates. #castle #italianalps #milano #venice
Plenty to smile about with response on the doorsteps in Wall under Heywood & Rushbury this evening. Lots of people saying they’d voted for me in 2024 & they would do so again & quite a number of new LibDem voters as well. A significant number remembering my time as their MP 2001 to 2005. #Shropshire
Recording an interview for BBC East on planning in the Green Belt, in my capacity as a Director of Green Planning Services Ltd - as always it’ll be interesting to see what makes the cut. #Planning #greenbelt #TVInterview
This evening we were in Cross Houses calling on local residents. Two rakes from tonight: 1) support for the Conservatives has fallen since the last General Election, #Shropshire #SouthShropshire #LibDems #LiberalDemocrats
Very positive response from local residents in Acton Burnell this evening. Lots of people either saying they vote #LibDem or they would vote tactically LibDem to beat Reform / Conservatives in South #Shropshire at the next General Election, whenever that is. #SouthShropshire #LibDems #ActonBurnell
Today we were out calling on local residents in #Bridgnorth. We found good support for @LibDems however the really clear message from a significant majority of them was that they want to see Farage / ReformUK stopped from getting into Downing Street. #SouthShropshire #Shropshire
Great to join North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan MP & guest speaker Layla Moran MP at a #LibDem dinner in Shropshire last night. Layla spoke with passion about how it’s liberalism that can provide the credible way forward for UK in these uncertain times. #shropshire #LiberalDemocrats #GeneralElection
Today was Montgomery Castle’s turn to get another visit. Started in 1223 in place of a motte & bailey, a short distance away, the excavations at Hen Domen showed it remained in use for a significant time after Montgomery was built. #Montgomery #castle #powys #welshmarches #medieval
It is not possible to go to Whittington Castle too many times. This is from today’s visit. #whittington #Castle #shropshire #medievalcastle
Productive general election planning session yesterday with South Shropshire LibDems at the Clive Arms. The committed team planning the campaign included Shropshire Councillors, Heather Kidd (Chirbury & Worthen), Ruth Houghton (Bishop’s Castle) and Beverley Waite (Ludlow East). #shropshire
If voters in South Shropshire don’t want Farage in No.10 Downing Street, they need to vote LibDem. Only the LibDems can beat Reform / the Conservatives in South Shropshire. #SouthShropshire #Shropshire #LibDems #Conservative #ReformUK
25 years ago yesterday, I had just been elected the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for #Ludlow. In the past 150 years I’m the only MP to represent the area (now called South Shropshire) who was not either a Conservative or their Liberal Unionist allies. #SouthShropshire #LibDems #Ukraine
Sunset over the Dnipro this evening. I continue to be astounded by the resilience, fortitude and bravery of the Ukrainians. We owe them so much, they are our front line. #Ukraine #Dnipro #Kyiv #SlavaUkrainii #sunset
Out calling on residents in Cleobury Mortimer today, with local Town Councillor Ben Williams. Solid support for LibDems. #cleoburymortimer #southshropshire #shropshire #LibDems
On a damp day for cricket, a weakened Much Wenlock Cricket Club team were comfortably beaten by Quatt Cricket Club. Over the years Quatt’s ground has improved significantly and it’s always a pleasure to play a game there. #cricket #ShropshireCricket #southshropshire #quatt #muchwenlock #shropshire
Three popular river swimming locations in #Shropshire, 2 on River Severn, & one on River Teme at #Ludlow, are now designated as ‘don’t swim’ due to the water being assessed as unsafe. This is a legacy of the Conservatives allowing water companies to dump #sewage into our rivers at an alarming rate.
Sur le Pont d’Avignon. By night and by day. In February this year. 1224 to 2026 #pontdavignon #avignon #medieval #PontSaintBénézet
A pleasant afternoon amble along the Severn in Shrewsbury today. Sufficient blue sky for photos fortunately. #RiverSevern #Shrewsbury #Shropshire
