Saturday night jam is Zappa Halloween 78. Past peak Zappa (and the keyboards...no). But the band is crazy good per usual. Vinnie Colaiuta crushes on drums. You get a good sense of what a crazy fun show this was.
Saturday night jam is @neilyoungarchives.bsky.social As Time explodes. The voice is vulnerable like never before but the jamming is top notch. Cool setlist with rare plus obligatory. Hurricane!
So many options! A man gesturing toward a crowd of immigrants, including the “German socialist,” “Italian brigand” and “English convict.” He tells Uncle Sam “If Immigration was properly Restricted you would no longer be troubled with Anarchy, Socialism, the Mafia and such kindred evils!"
Saturday night jam is @mymorningjacket.bsky.social Peacelands. Basically Jim demo stuff but timely and solid as always
Looks like @musicologyduck.bsky.social is experiencing REAL ILLINOIS FUN
Saturday night jam is 1 day early, 54th anniversary of Grateful Dead 5/3/72 Paris. Obviously amazing tour. Tight as hell, expansive when warranted. 30+ minute The Other One featured jam. Cook.
Saturday night jam is @pearljam.com Dark Matter. Many things I like, although a bit "produced." It's still good rock, and leans toward chances occasionally, which is when they're at their best.
Friday night jam is Who Are You box. Last very good Who album? Includes 3 discs of live 1979 Who with Kenny Jones replacing Moon on drums. Pete is out of his mind on drugs but contributes some of his best guitar playing live during this era. @carynrose.bsky.social did a nice writeup on this release
Saturday night jam picks up with Queens of the Stone Age In Times New Roman. A lot of what makes QOTSA great, and some not. Still haven't fully digested yet but worth a listen.
Saturday night jam continues with Ben Harper Winter is for Lovers. Acoustic album for his favorite cities. Amazing performer gets mellow. Yes, it is signed non-humble brag
Saturday night jam is Mr. Dylan, More Blood, More Tracks. Stripped down version of arguably his best album. His original vision before re-recording some of it. Great great stuff.
Friday night jam continues with @mymorningjacket.bsky.social live volume 3. Bonnaroo 2004. Band nearing a LONG peak. Great Steam Engine to close. Rock and jam central.
Friday night jam is Rolling Stones Black and Blue. Transitional period, shifting from guitar slaying Mick Taylor to a variety pack (at least on this album). Imagine Harvey Mandel with the Stones!? But we got Ronnie to be Kieth's drug buddy. No offense Ron!
Saturday night jam is Tom Pettey Finding Wildflowers. This song is a nice coda for the #nokings rally
Friday night jam is Allman Brothers, Fillmore East Feb 1970. Tightening up in real time before your ears. A year out from prime but a sweet peek into what's to come. 30 min Mountain Jam.
Sunday night jams continue with The Band. Brown album. Maybe their best? Insane songwriting and insane musicianship. Could be a desert island album
Sunday night jam is Yes at Yale 1971. Guessing not many law students were getting minds blown. Tight but expansive jamming, which is what they did best.
This is good @ichotiner.bsky.social www.newyorker.com/news/q-and-a...
Sunday night jam is Soundgarden Screaming Life/Fopp. Reverb-heavy sludge augmented with Cornell hitting every note. Not as musically sophisticated as they would later get, but still solid.
Saturday night jam is @pearljam.com Vault 2 at The Vic in Chicago. Almost entirely rare songs, Ben Harper guests. Includes "No More," anti-war song of the Iraq war part deux era, which is sadly timely.
