We are going to look at how central parts of the insect brain - the mushroom bodies and central complex - have evolved and how their development through distinct neural lineages has been modified across the insect tree. So, very much neuro-evo-devo! Going to add a little more detail to the story!

We take a close look at the Heliconiini central complex, how it evolves as a system very differently from the mushroom bodies, and how it might differ between spatially foraging Heliconius and closely related outgroups, through phylogenetic comparative methods and detailed anatomical analysis.
