Jacksonville’s future is in good hands. It was a pleasure meeting students participating in summer internship programs and the mentors who helped guide them along the way. Congratulations to all of the students on a successful summer!

Jacksonville is on a roll and that’s in large part due to our amazing Office of Economic Development. Thanks to Ed Randolph and his team, we are well on our way to becoming the Small Business Capital of the Southeast and continue to attract new companies and major capital investment to our city.

Jacksonville is a city on the rise, and our proposed budget continues that momentum. Every spending decision is designed to deliver a positive return for our citizens and make Jacksonville healthier, safer, more affordable, more competitive, more prosperous, and more prepared for the future.

Congratulations to the JFRD on their 140th anniversary. Since its founding in 1886, JFRD has grown alongside our city, adapting to meet the evolving needs of our growing community while remaining steadfast in its mission to safeguard lives, preserve property, and serve with courage and compassion.

Last fall, we broke ground on Phase 1 of Sulzbacher's Enterprise Village which feature studio and one-bedroom apartments for 100 formerly unhoused men. Today, we are thrilled to break ground on Phase 2 which will provide wrap-around health and job training services. (1/2)

Thanks to DCPS, Kids Hope Alliance, River City Readers, the Jacksonville Public Library, and CIS Jacksonville. Each of these organizations brings something unique, but together they are bringing the opportunity of reading directly our students and the children of this neighborhood.

The opening of this brand‑new Little Free Library at Sallye B. Mathis Elementary School represents what happens when a community comes together with one shared goal: helping every child discover the power and joy of reading. (1/2)

This pilot program will bring high-quality manufactured housing into an urban setting, designed and built the right way. This shows our residents, our builders, and frankly, the whole country, this is yet another a viable solution to the affordable housing crisis. (2/2)

This development, located on Sheldon Drive next to Ed White High School, will provide 144 high-quality affordable homes, with half of the residences dedicated to service members, veterans and their families, including homes specifically reserved for veterans experiencing homelessness. (2/3)

The Christobel septic tank phase out project is another big step forward in building a healthier city where every neighborhood has a fair shot. It will improve public health, protect our waterways, provide reliable sewer service, and finally make good on promises that were made decades ago.

All month long, I’ve been visiting local businesses across the city to celebrate National Small Business Month. Last week, I joined Councilwoman Tyrona Clark-Murray at Rain Drop Mobile Detailing at Beaver and Edgewood. Since 2015, Jerome Warren and his crew detail 20+ cars a day - all by hand!

On this Memorial Day, the greatest way we honor those brave men and women who gave their lives for this nation is to live lives worthy of their sacrifice. So today, let us remember, let us honor, and let us act towards building a nation worthy of these brave men and women giving all.
