Books and spiders, books and spiders and occasionally IT/dev as it's my day job. Missouri, USA
Another species in that same genus--phormictopus "sp. South Hispaniola" showing off a bit of her green femurs.
One of my favorite tarantula species--phormictopus auratus--right after a molt. She's a sassy lady, always investigating and making a mess, but she's absolutely gorgeous!
I just built out and stocked a new rolling workspace/water dish kiosk for my spiders. Check this out! (The bottom drawer, not shown here, has all the photography equipment and extra lights.)
No, but check out this lovely mimolette I have successfully kept hidden from my children and grandchildren for about 2 weeks now. I have plans for this cheese this weekend!
So I bought a male poecilotheria striata three years ago. I've been waiting for him to mature and not really paying attention too hard other than "Is he eating and healthy". He molted today and after seeing his distinctly FEMALE ventral side, I pulled his molt and OMG I have a girl! #tarantula
A gorgeous tliltocatl vagans adult female. Her name is Jackal, Jackie, JJ or JackAttack. She answers to none of those names. #tarantula #spider
I found this recluse a year and a half ago in my house and held on to her to release her in the summer. I forgot to do that so I overwintered her again. Now she's a part of the family, so I guess she's yet another foster fail. (Yep, she's missing two legs. I found her that way.) #spider
Eating my dang basil and flaunting the fact that they have a better love life than I do at the moment. Rude!
I have a plant manager who sets up meetings to discuss ideas and then forgets to attend the meetings. In other words, I have a free hour right now! Gonna feed some spiders while "waiting" for her to remember. Here's a picture of my phormictopus sp. South Hispaniola's tiny tarantula Mohawk.
The cutest little ceratogyrus meridionalis spiderling you will see today! #tarantula For scale, the round rim this spider is standing on is a tiny tattoo cup, pictured between my finger and thumb in the second picture.
Somewhere inside this pile of floof is a mastermind of chaos and destruction. Garbanzo Elizabeth Bean charging her battery in preparation for her next mission of mischief.
Ceratogyrus marshalli girl having a little hissy fit because I tried to feed her. #tarantula
This is Gertrude. In her 3 years in our home she has only ever known soft touches, gentle words, love and treats. Despite this, Gertrude weighs each potential interaction against her unshakeable conviction that we are merely biding our time and are, in fact, plotting to destroy her.
Having a bad day? Check out this mighty hunter! (The plastic swimming pool in the back is a tiny tattoo ink cup, for scale.) chilobrachys sp. "I forget which flavor and didn't mark it down and they kinda all look alike at this age" #tarantula #spider
I have a project that requires the contents of this box. I guess I'm not doing the project today.
And finally here is their brother. I think he is the best-looking of the siblings, tbh! Can't believe everyone was in a cooperative mood today for pictures. harpactira pulchripes juvenile male
Here is their sister, eating her first meal after a molt. She loves corners (and doors, if available), just like Miller in his porkpie hat. harpactira pulchripes juvenile female
A pretty little harpactira pulchripes juvenile tarantula on the run (well, the fast walk) as I take their picture. I'm pretty sure this is a male but I haven't been arsed to actually check.
This was our foster cat who we intended to keep "just a few weeks." On or about year 7 or so the vet was like "Can we just go ahead and mark her down as yours?" She was always ours, but we needed a while to get used to the idea. Hudson is home!
My beautiful psalmopoeus emeraldus lady hanging out on here corkbark waiting for a meal. (She got one!) #tarantula #spider
Life when you love tarantulas: Oh my goodness, she's out for the first time in forever! Let me take some photos.... Welp. kochiana brunnipes adult female
This is a freshly molted psalmopoeus ecclesiasticus. She is smooshed down to about half her normal size because I am taking a photo. I am taking a photo because she is never out and had to strike while the iron was hot. She eventually walked off and then I gave her a hornworm. #tarantula
Phormictopus sp. south hispaniola, adult female. Her carapace has highlights of pink and maroon and her femurs show off blue green, depending on the angle of the light. In this photo I captured just a hint of both.
We're on day something-something-2-months-later and Ms. Brown recluse is LORGE and more than ready to get released into the shed. #loxosceles #spider
Yesterday I managed to get a close-up of that horn while she was eating. I love how the setae (hairs) on it has the same striping as the rest of the carapace. Ceratogyrus marshalli #tarantula #spider
