@memorialdevice.bsky.social Alternative National Treasure. #LFC. #SmallBusiness owner. #Edinburgh. #Retail. #Music. #Politics. The most ill considered opinions are probably mine.
I've been listening to XTC ever since Making Plans Nigel was in the hit parade in 1979. Reader, I was very young at the time. This live album is a reminder that they had an incredible stage act. It's a real sadness that Andy Partridge was so emotionally overwhelmed by the experience of playing live
Legends on Netflix is an absolutely excellent bit of telly, and I really enjoyed it. #Legends
Won an Ooni pizza oven in a raffle. I make pizza from scratch almost every week, but I would never have bought the Ooni for myself. This pepperoni pizza was cooked in a Scottish hailstorm, but still came out pretty well. I'm a convert. But I would like some better weather 🤷🍕
Allons-y, les Écossais! Murrayfield looks great under a blazing blue sky. Les Français are here in numbers. I had to dodge dozens of them on my morning run.
Battering through Friday with the assistance of the new album from Gorillaz. As ever, Damon Albarn is absolutely bang on point. Delirium features Mark E Smith, and hearing him again is a viscerally emotional experience. To the point of tears. God I miss him. youtu.be/yw8ftPahxAg?...
Last night in Edinburgh's Usher Hall @suedehq.bsky.social were magnificent. Brett & Co are enjoying the imperial phase of life, befitting men approaching their sixties. I'm taking notes. The new album Antidepressants is an astonishing piece of creativity; complex, dirty, powerful, beautiful.
Current reading The Twentieth Day Of January by Ted Allebeury. I can't remember where I got the recommendation. It's about a long term Russian political plot to put their man in the White House. It was published in 1980 but could have been written in the last decade in terms of the plot... 🤷
A wee trip to see the Hibees today. They should have won by 4 or 5 goals, but 2-0 was very comfortable. Some decent football on display.
Neeeeerrrrrrrrrddding out to this today has been an absolute tonic #Beatles #Anthology
Years ago I took my youngest brother to see The Charlatans at St George's Hall in Blackburn. We were amongat the first people in the door, and as I was getting my bearings Mani swaygered past us in full Madchester clobber, loudly enquiring "where's the baaaaaar"? Bless him, I hope he's found the bar
A House Of Dynamite seems to have divided the room, literally in my house because I enjoyed it, but my wife and youngest daughter were underwhelmed. I suspect that growing up under the threat of imminent nuclear immolation in the 80's has primed me to enjoy stuff like this. So I did.
Looking For A Day In The Night by The Lilac Time has finally been re-released, and for those of us who put our CD collections in the attic twenty years ago, it's appearance on streaming services spares us from irritating YouTube Playlists, and is an opportunity for others to discover it.
The tragic remains of the Huly Hill Stone Circle, at Newbridge, West of Edinburgh. A manicured mound and less than a handful of stones, next to two motorways, separated from the huge outlier on the east side of the junction. There are other stones and marked rocks nearby. #StandingStoneSunday
Well, as the saying goes 'Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn', and normally I'd not argue with you. However, this only holds true if the sunken city of "R'lyeh" is actually a raised bed in our back garden, and "Cthulhu" is a rather grumpy and misshapen carrot #Cthulhu #Lovecraft
