Working on an editorial on the Steam Machine, and I finally tracked down one of my favorite tidbits of tech writing: the GameCube is "mouse-fart quiet." Electronic Gaming Monthly, December 2001. Big Xbox vs GameCube feature, page 213. Sadly no writer mentioned. archive.org/details/elec...
"Oh hey, wassup, just wanted to let you know. We gave ourselves permission to spam you with texts. You're cool with that, right? Great."
On Saturday I was up at the crack of dawn, out on my kayak on the Delaware River, to get a photo of a wild bald eagle on the 250th. I had to wait for power to come back after the storm to edit it. The original is gone, this is the only form in which this photo exists. Happy belated 4th.
Went kayaking after work. Spotted a pair of beavers building, about three miles north of my nearest landing on the Delaware. So freakin' cool.
A single small screw, discovered roaming the carpet of my home office. An ominous portent.
The Walmart Neighborhood Market in San Angelo, TX (Knickerbocker Road) had a sale on kiddie pools. And somebody had a stroke of genius.
I choose to believe that she ripped every server apart with her bare hands, chewed the HBRAM up like potato chips, spit them out like The Mask spitting bullets to blow up the diesel generators. And I won't be clicking to read otherwise.
Related: I carried an S-Biner Ahhh every day for 15 years. It's so old it still says "patent pending." When the tension on one side finally gave out, I emailed Nite Ize to use that lifetime warranty. They sent me a new one. Not bad for a $5 doohicky. If anyone knows how to fix it, please tell me.
I was finally able to get out on the kayak this weekend, for the first time this year. 26 miles on the Delaware. The water was 48 degrees F. So I still have to use the dry suit. An eagle I've been watching for three years is now matured, and has a mate and a nest! I wish them all the best.
I really hate Craigslist spammers. They're making the search function useless. And most of the time they're not even selling on the site, just spamming for a separate site where they're trying to flip property.
"Let's Watch Brennan Suffer" remains everyone's favorite @dropout.tv genre
Oh hey, this one just came on for me! Thanks @dropout.tv for not blocking screenshots like all the other streaming apps.
I used to love Ariat boots. Super comfortable, lasted a long time. But looking over the catalog today, some of it's gone turbo-tacky, even for "cowboy" boots. Skulls and bandanas on work boots? Who are you trying to intimidate, a two-by-four?
This blew up fast, and some others seem to have tracked down the original quote attributed to Gareth Klieber, documented by Dan Wentzel (@danwentzel.urbanists.social.ap.brid.gy) , : urbanists.social/@danwentzel/...
