Must read for my fellow leftists, and left-leaners. Especially here on BlueSky. I personally blame social media in general, but the echo chambers here are unproductive at best, wildly unhinged and disconnect from reality, at worst (most of all with regard to AI).

Hot take perhaps, but I’m way more interested in directors pushing consumer devices like FX3 (Edwards’ “The Creator”) than I am Nolan’s insistence on using giant, insanely loud, and frankly outdated equipment.

Noticed @pimaxvr.bsky.social is cross-promoting "IL-2 Korea", in addition to investing significantly in Studio 397's "LeMans Ultimate". While the magnitude and breadth of this investment isn't going to match what Meta/Oculus was once doing, I love seeing this finally happening in the PCVR space.
We went through this already in ASIC design (late 1990's): cells within a new datapath were painstakingly placed by hand. One by one. Then came automated P&R. We could now synthesize Verilog into a netlist, and have automation place the cells for us, and wire them up to meet timing.
Congrats to the Forza Horizon 6 team. Looks like another massive hit! Can’t wait to try it.
Facts that live rent-free in my head: Disney wrote Star Wars 7-9 from scratch, when they already had the (amazing) Timothy Zahn novels... just sitting there. I think about this all the time.
Spent my formative years as an intern in CNN’s tech wing. Had an amazing experience. Learned so much there, and met many incredible people. Even once sat in a cube in Ted’s old mansion’s master bedroom, after it had been converted into an office (across!from Georgia Tech). RIP Ted, and thanks.

IMO GameDev BlueSky is an echo chamber, with a negative bias against AI based on largely inaccurate assumptions. On the other side, I think the rest of the world is still at the "Peak of inflated expectations". The trough of disillusionment will likely be nasty. The sooner we plateau, the better.
Learned Sony A7V's biggest upgrade is a new 33MP partially stacked sensor, but none of the marketing/youtubers had a diagram of it. Luckily, I found this slide deck (full paper is also on IEEE Xplore). 3D packaging is changing everything. cs.rochester.edu/courses/259/...

On De Minimis (RIP): something I didn't realize with its removal is that not only are you going to now be tariffed for small purchases, but the logistics company can (and will) charge the receiving party a "processing fee", of which the minimum can be over 2X the value of the actual tariff.
Very similar situation that back-end chip designers experienced during the transition from manual cell placement and wiring to automated place and route. Same for hand-written netlists to synthesized RTL for the front-end. It’s going to be OK (but you absolutely must adapt and abstract).
Arc Raiders, especially the audio, gives strong "Oblivion" vibes. And that's a huge compliment.
