Voted “No” on tonight’s partisan funding bill because the bill fails to properly fund critical programs and fails to protect California’s federal funding from being targeted by the Administration.

This bill underfunds programs that provide housing assistance, programs that help rural communities with utility costs, and programs to suppress wildland fires. Housing, utility, and fire prevention costs are already way too high in our district.

I refuse to support a bill that does nothing to prevent the Administration from withholding critical federal funds for California.

The President spread reckless misinformation tonight to sow doubts about November's midterm elections. The American people aren't buying it.

Our intelligence agencies' investigations have shown that there was no foreign interference or widespread voter fraud in our 2020 elections or following elections. Instead of stoking old, debunked conspiracy theories, the President should be focused on stopping ICE's out-of-control killings, lowering the cost of living, and ending his illegal war with Iran.

Read my statement below on far-right extremist Rep. Thomas Massie’s amendment to the National Security, Department of State and Related Programs Appropriations Act.

“I stand firmly against sending offensive weapons to Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu has caused a humanitarian crisis in Gaza and I continue to call for the protection of Palestinian civilians, a surge of humanitarian aid in Gaza, and a two-state solution to bring peace and self-determination to Israelis and Palestinians,” said Thompson.

“I cannot support this amendment because it is so poorly drafted and overly broad that it would defund our efforts to protect civilians and promote peace, taking us farther from our goals. At the same time, I stand firmly against Netanyahu’s conduct in Gaza and his efforts to drag us into conflict with Iran.

“I voted ‘present’ in protest of Netanyahu and in solidarity with our peacekeeping efforts. This amendment was proposed by an extremist as an unserious solution to an incredibly serious issue and I refuse to play cheap political games when it comes to matters of global conflict,” he concluded.
