The writing that can be seen on the top part of the tanzaku is in Japanese and reads 自然界 - shizenkai - which means “nature” or the “natural world”.

The title of the painting is “A Prayer for the Natural World”. It was hand painted by me, Miko Mayer, with absolutely NO AI involved (as always! :)

The article below is a good introduction to Lee Miller. She had a fascinating life, was a very interesting person. For more info, I’d recommend the book Lee Miller: On Both Sides of the Camera by Carolyn Burke. I first read it about 20 years ago and still remember excepts of it vividly.
