The risks are real. Experimental trials with live viruses could lead to infection if not handled properly or produce side effects in those already infected. Genital herpes is caused by two viruses that can trigger outbreaks of painful sores. Many patients have no symptoms, though a small number suffer greatly. The virus is primarily spread through sexual contact, but also can be released through skin.

A company affiliated with the AfD's federal executive board has developed an AI tool that churns out ready-made hate speech at the push of a button: posts, slogans, and graphics in the party's design. The tool is scheduled to be presented at the party's federal convention in Erfurt this weekend, and party leader Alice Weidel's social media channels are already connected to it. The underlying technology comes from major US tech companies: Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic. CORRECTIV obtained advance access to the hate-mongering AI and tested it.

The German North Sea is a great vacation spot in June. Seals to watch (they also get their babies now) and endless beaches that sometimes have sand like meringue - it cracks slightly when you walk on it. I also wished to find some little piece of amber - and the universe was very nice and I did 🙂.

So Bigelow Aerospace’s soft-sided spacecraft—known as the B330—takes some getting used to. The exterior surface looks a little marshmallowy. We uncover a surprising property of distillation in this setting. Even when the teacher generates data that contain no semantic signal about the trait, student models can still acquire the trait of the teacher model, a phenomenon we call subliminal learning. For example, we use a model that is prompted to prefer owls to generate a dataset consisting solely of number sequences such as ‘(285, 574, 384, ...)’. When another model is fine-tuned on these sequences, we find its responses disproportionately indicate a preference for owls (Fig. 1). Similarly, models trained on number sequences generated by misaligned models inherit misalignment, explicitly calling for crime and violence, even when the data are filtered to remove numbers with negative associations such as ‘666’.
