Why is the X on the top right when you look at an image on Bluesky? It should stay on the left along with “cancel” for your post or the back arrow.

A horrifying array of good products. Well, mostly a series of things that would go into an American casserole—butter, peas, canned tuna, shredded cheese, egg noddles, among other things—but also Gatorade.

The X to close the image is on the top right because everything is wrong with the universe.

Every time I see something new from ol’ Matty Y I’m fairly certain I must have come across an old post.

A “provocative gesture,” you say? A “controversial salute,” even? Heavens to Murgatroyd, I think there might be another commonly used name for that.

The Daily Beast posts: “Steve Bannon whipped up the CPAC crowd by talking about the possibility of Trump staying in office for a third term—and concluded his speech by giving a provocative gesture that resembled the controversial salute Elon Musk gave at a post-inauguration rally last month.” The picture shows Bannon looking disheveled and throwing his hand up in a gesture widely recognized as a Nazi solute.

Important to remember that the “roided out” America of Reagan is a large part of the reason we’re where we are today. We’re frequently very fond of the strongmen of the world. Just not the ones who get in our way.

Worried about how much progress we took for granted when the political and economic mechanisms we live under are largely designed to slow that type of change.

The pawl is an arm that catches in the teeth to prevent clockwise movement, but pushed out of the way of the teeth, allowing movement, when the ratchet wheel moves counter-clockwise.

The Last Bastion: Russia long used the Syrian conflict as a driver of refugees to destabilize Europe; given the Hamas leadership visits to the Kremlin in the months before Oct 7, Putin likely knew in advance and was poised to use US support for Israel following the attack as a wedge issue in the 2024 election.

Most electoral commentary still mistakenly talks about who did vote instead of who didn’t. But after the party closed ranks against Bernie and pushed against healthcare reforms, this doesn’t feel like the correct analysis.

False claims of antisemitism have been weaponized, yes. But antisemitism is still a significant threat. Ignoring that makes our Jewish friends less safe. Sharing this sentiment is just as harmful and ignorant as other claims that we’ve moved past various bigotries.

Imagine that you and nine friends are trying to decide on a movie to see. Five want to see “Wicked.” You and four others want to see “Here.” No decision can be made; you’re deadlocked at 5 to 5.
Then, two of your friends decide they aren’t going to go. Both wanted to see “Wicked,” so now there’s consensus. By a 5 to 3 margin, “Here” triumphs. Not because there was suddenly more support for “Here,” but because the pool of “Wicked” choosers got smaller. The effect is the same: the eight of you buy your tickets for “Here.”

If we’re not exploiting workers in public services by taking away a portion of the value they produce, what’s the point of them providing a valuable service to the public?
