Shriver has argued against migration into the UK; in 2021, she wrote an article that stated "For westerners to passively accept and even abet incursions by foreigners so massive that the native-born are effectively surrendering their territory without a shot fired is biologically perverse." She is a patron of British population growth rate concern group Population Matters, and supported Brexit.

Shriver has been an outspoken critic of what she describes as a "deeply disturbing social obsession with transgenderism," especially following the arrest of Graham Linehan when he arrived at Heathrow airport. In September 2025, two years after she left the UK for Portugal, Shriver said she is now scared to travel to the country "because I'm worried that, given what I have put into print, I could be arrested the next time I come to the UK."

I'm not going to watch it againvbut my recollection is that her claim wasn't so much about coffee vs tea but that it's posh to have a "coffee pot". I assumed she meant something like this:

What Americans call a coffee pot is the glass carafe in a drip coffee maker. It's the least "fancy" kind of coffee in US culture. Like this, except with a layer of baked-on coffee residue on the bottom from the hot plate:

I went and looked for it and wow. It's a follow-up to a post in which he profoundly misunderstands the Fischer Tropsch process and how the US participates in the global O&G market (and did then), among many other things. This is my favorite, but the whole thing is fractally wrong.

Quote about the Fischer Tropsch process from a 2005 David Sirota post about coal-to-liquids:

Excerpt from article in the New Yorker about Elizabeth Gilbert's new memoir:

In time, Gilbert becomes a twisted bedside nurse, tying off the arms of a “venomous junkie” who has already lived nine months longer than the doctors thought she would. And yet this off-kilter enabler remains Elizabeth Gilbert, a woman who could, in under thirty seconds, locate transcendent human insight in a nuclear-waste dump. She tells herself, “Rayya is my most beautiful story.” Then, losing the faith, she decides to murder Rayya, literally, by switching her morphine pills with sleeping pills and covering her in fentanyl patches—a plot that fails only because Rayya somewhat demonically cottons on to the plan and thwarts it. Gilbert realizes that she has hit rock bottom, that she is a sex-and-love addict—an addict all around, actually. This becomes the organizing principle and revelation of the book: Gilbert’s journey with Rayya is merely an extreme version of a dynamic that “all of us” can relate to, Gilbert tells her readers, because, like addicts, we have all grasped desperately at “relief from the sting of life.”

People like Émile P. Torres are living rent-free in AI boosters' heads. Never mind that none of them are leading or even having much or any influence (unfortunately) on mainstream climate groups or government policy.

My method for buying tomato sauce in a jar: look for the cheapest option that doesn't have added sweetener or any oil besides olive oil. That's usually Paesana and it's usually a couple of bucks cheaper a jar than Rao's.
