One of the stories from Greenberg's son is that Greenberg keenly followed Koufax's career in the 1960s. He wasn't into baseball much by then apparently but he was sure to follow Koufax:

From Hank Greenberg: The Story of My Life:

"Dad also followed Koufax. In those days, in the 1960s, we were living in New York. Dad was out of baseball and we didn't talk a lot about it. I think he still used to get a ballot every year to vote for some baseball-related award. He'd go to an occa- sional game-he didn't go to a lot of them. But he used to talk about Koufax all the time. He compared him to Feller. Koufax was the first pitcher he had seen since Feller who had both an intimidating fastball and a great curveball. And the combination made him unhittable.

"Did Dad follow Koufax's career because he was Jewish? I'm sure it must have been a factor."

Happy birthday, Sandy Koufax, 90 years old today! He once modeled sweaters because he really loved - and presumably still loves - sweaters. He's also one of the nicest people by all accounts. Hope he has a good one!

Also recently discovered that Tom Seaver's second Cy Young caused a lot of controversy because it wasn't given to Ron Bryant, the wins leader and um... yeah... (also Don Sutton was pretty good it turns out!)

1973 NL Cy Young voting. Tom Seaver is the winner with a WAR of 10.6 while the second WAR leader is Don Sutton with 5.4 WAR. Ron Bryant is a distant third with 3.5

Bob Gibson would have been 90 today. Like another favorite of mine from that era, he too began as a basketball player, was a late bloomer, and later became a WS legend. Here's my favorite picture of one of the most intimidating pitchers to ever live:
