I walk towards the sound of the shrimp boat idling in the harbor, open carrying coffee—something I never do. The town is overrun with cats and the judgement of money. Marker stand in place of houses claimed by the water. I need this today, but it’s not our home. Cross Oriental, NC off the list.
Because I didn’t wanna watch the game alone, I walked up to our local sports joint. It was too full to get a seat, but I got a free cozy, a free beer, and a necklace.
It’s July. The years and miles don’t change a thing. I called her because I said I would. She told me this time she was really going to stop drinking. And I laughed at her. That’s the last time I ever spoke to my sister. I can’t undo that.
