"[White people] needed a handle, a lever, a means of inspiring fear. It was absolutely clear that the police would whip you and take you in as long as they could get away with it, and that everyone else—housewives, taxi-drivers, elevator boys, dishwashers, bartenders, lawyers, judges, doctors, and grocers—would never, by the operation of any generous human feeling, cease to use you as an outlet for his frustrations and hostilities. Neither civilized reason nor Christian love would cause any of those people to treat you as they presumably wanted to be treated; only the fear of your power to retaliate would cause them to do that, or to seem to do it, which was (and is) good enough. "On the question of Trump or the FBI tampering with the files (e.g., deleting instances of Trump’s name, removing video evidence, destroying images), I have significantly less worry about this than most.

Why? The “Epstein Files” isn’t some centralized database. They comprise a host of electronic and physical evidence collected by the FBI, held under seal by the courts, used in civil proceedings, and held by third parties. The core investigative files, gathered by the FBI, are subject to strict chain-of-custody controls, meaning they have electronic timestamps, evidentiary IDs, digital authentications, and audit trails. That’s very hard to mess with, at least not without someone noticing."

• In March 2025, fossil fuels made less than half our electricity. Around the world, 95% of new generation came from renewable sources.
• In May, the Chinese were putting up 3 gigawatts of solar panels
a day. A gigawatt’s the rough equivalent of a large coal-fired power plant…so one of them was going up every 8 hours.
• Bell Labs invented solar panels in 1954, but they weren’t cost-effective for anything except satellites. Thanks to decades of science (and activism), it’s now cheaper to produce energy from the sun and the wind than from coal and gas and oil.
• Fossil fuels: contribute to 1 in 5 deaths (9m/year) from byproducts and has been a major contributor in launching endless wars
• Every 10th of a degree that we raise the planet’s temperature moves 100 million human beings out of a safe climate zone and into a dangerous one.
• The current administration is stopping renewable projects to protect the profits of fossil fuel corporations. For example, Trump killed a R.I. wind project that would have generated enough electricity to power 2 million homes.
• We’re ceding the technological and economic future to China.
