Late to the party, but finally watching Backrooms. Pickle sandwich and Scotch at hand.
The last time I watched Christian Petzold's Afire, it was late '24 and I was going through a complicated breakup while missing my Dad, who had recently passed. I often think of all three. In preparation for watching Petzold's latest, I'm rewatching Afire to...I don't know. We'll see what happens.
The 1-2 Special release of Christian Petzold's Miroirs No. 3 is beautiful. I absolutely adore his films, and might share the bittersweet tale of my life related to this one when I watch it. For now, I'm stoked to have it join the collection!
Happy August! I'm going to be 43 in a little over two weeks (was enjoying being the age of the answer to the ultimate question). Most of the past year wasn't great, but I'm going to start being kinder to myself, and might even celebrate my birthday. First bit of kindness...
"I... I used to make long speeches to you after you left. I used to talk to you all the time, even though I was alone." - Paris, Texas. First saw this as a youth that couldn't possibly understand love or longing. Saw it in the theater when life had tried to teach me those lessons. I get it, now.
Chet Baker is perfect for a wounded heart. Thanks to my friends for getting me through a rough day. Now I have one of my favourite albums on vinyl, several new books to help pass the time, fancy drinks and homemade dumplings.
Time for some of the incredible compositions from Emahoy Tsege Mariam Gebru.
If you could see any John Carpenter film during its first run in theaters, what would you pick?

After a long, shitty, day...John Carpenter is the cure. Rewatching John Carpenter's Vampires. #FilmSky #MutantFam #HorrorSky
Sleep is overrated: rewatching John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13. #FilmSky #MutantFam #HorrorSky
The cinematic equivalent of a hug. Rewatching John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness. #FilmSky #MutantFam #HorrorSky
Watched the latest Sam Raimi film, Send Help. McAdams was great, the humor worked, but it felt a bit too long and O'Brien was bland. Overall a good time. It made me miss having someone to always watch movies with, but it'll pass. #FilmSky #MutantFam #HorrorSky
Writing with entertainment crackers as a cheer squad and Tom T. Hall playing.
Time for some cinema therapy: watching John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13. #FilmSky #HorrorSky
