My college friend group chat blew up this week because someone saw this guy in the background wearing our college gear. Immediately several people in the chat said they knew him--he'd gone to UNC with us--and something along the lines of, "Trust me, you don't want to know anything else about him."
@colsonwhitehead.com is writing about Americans in the 1980s here. I guess the past really is a foreign country, because I can’t imagine Americans doing that today.
He was lecturing on Bosch’s Haywain Triptych and a student interrupted him to ask (in a very rural NC voice; Dr. Judson was a New Englander), “Are you saying ‘Haywain,’ or like, ‘Hey, Wayne?’” I always assumed he got the F-.

In the medical literature, Dr. Battle is remembered for successfully delivering conjoined twins at their home in Indianola at a time when conjoined twins usually died. Lydia and Linda attended the unveiling yesterday. They turn 70 on Sunday—and they should have their own tv show. They’re hilarious.
It honors Dr. Clinton Battle, an important and hitherto unrecognized civil organizer who was also a wunderkind of a family practitioner.
