The method subtly alters content to make it unreadable to AI models while remaining unchanged to the human eye.
The breakthrough could help artists, organisations and social media users protect their work and personal data from being used to train AI systems or create deepfakes.
While the method is currently applicable to images, there are plans to expand it to text, music, and videos.

An Australian was turned back at the US border because the officer doesn't understand flight routes from here to the USA. Going via Asia is not that unusual if you're with Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific or another Asian carrier.

On March 11, after a 24-hour flight from Sydney via Hong Kong and New York's JFK Airport, with my final destination being Miami to board a cruise, I was detained by border control at JFK for "enhanced vetting" as per the executive directive signed by the US president on January 25. Eight hours later, after three interview teams and extensive examination of my laptop and iPhone, they decided I'd come on an unusual route to the US, namely from Australia via Asia (I flew premium economy and Cathay Pacific had the cheapest airfare). Although there was no evidence of wrongdoing, I was sent back to Australia, meaning I was unable to join the cruise, valued at $15,000 and not refundable.
