What are we doing here, respect the OG Lettuce: This is the Lettuce that launched a thousand headlines and it did not generate a single BM; just the expulsion of one thoroughly incompetent PM.
Walking outside today in the US Midwest felt like entering Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road’ It is bleak.
Spain: The 2010 Spain of the 2026 World Cup. Both teams had game 1 wobbles, but pretty much lights out after that.
WHCA just issued strongly worded statement directly condemning the President for his denigrating comments about a NY Times White House correspondent and for his Administration’s politically motivated investigation of the Times. They also rescinded his invitation to WHCA Dinner. Well, not exactly:
Image of Ancelotti and Moriyasu (sans jacket) shaking hands at the end of the Brazil-Japan match looked like a Bank President finishing a visit to one of the bank's branches and thanking the branch manager. Updated post w/ image
Will admit may be overthinking this or may just be a "snowflake" But when I first saw this image in an email for a Brewers promo celebrating Misiorowski and his CG 1H 15K performance from a couple of weeks ago, thought maybe the better choice was to make the 2nd row behind Miz the one with the 3 Ks
Guess 'The Ivy Boys' at the New York Times have grown tired of waiting for their much reported settlement between the Trump Administration and Harvard to actually happen, so have decided to move onto Yale Note: The deal 'The Ivy Boys' reported was close in the Summer of 2025 has still not happened
“Over thousands of years…” Yes, everyone remembers the famous scene in The Iliad when Epeius and Odysseus argue about ownership of the means of production before they build the Trojan Horse. 🙄
In our Republic this is one of the few truly sacred places and so cannot see this as anything other than a desecration. The Lincoln Memorial was dedicated in May 1922. At the dedication ceremony the poet Edwin Markham prefaced reading of his poem ‘Lincoln, The Man Of The People’ with these words:
Watching SpaceX IPO and what appears to be, to borrow a phrase, the market's 'irrational exuberance' in its initial valuation of the company, realize I am a simpleton and know very little about such things For example, here are 2 companies largely in same industry and how the market values them:
Here is the current front / home page of the US paper of record. The racist incitement Musk has been stoking in Northern Ireland gets nowhere near the prominent framing as his prospective paper wealth creation.
Today in 1934, FDR delivered a message to Congress reviewing New Deal accomplishments and committing to introducing a program of national insurance (social security) Its worth reading in its entirety and its vision for an active, positive role for representative government is particularly resonant
Assume Chuck III is doing an homage here to Woody Guthrie. Though the King's version is: "This Land is My Land"
What is the @nytimes.com obsession with Harvard? An internal undergraduate grading policy is worthy of a pushed news alert? For what it’s worth, sounds like the new policy is going to result in a big increase in A- grades, student stress, and selfish behavior.
From the NYT - Pope Leo pushes back on criticism from Trump Administration: “If someone wants to criticize me for proclaiming the Gospel, let him do so truthfully.” Would advise the Pontiff not to hold his breath on that last part.
Ahead of WHCA Dinner, a view on role of the press at similar gathering in April 1933: "German press must be purged of 'contemporaries who live in a world other than the German' and henceforth must be a weapon of German government policy" View seems worrying close to that of current Administration
In my feed right now are back-to-back posts showing the former US President and current Mayor of NYC singing with children, and the current PM of Canada serving food in celebration of Sikh Heritage Month. There are politicians who celebrate people and understand the importance of joy.
It may be that 'Dumb McNamara' is just flailing in response to the Administration's unpopularity or exhibiting the only skill (being an unrelenting lickspittle) that keeps him in the job, but history shows us where this type of anti-press rhetoric can lead (from April 1933):
Phenomenal play by Javy Báez. This really needs an @artbutmakeitsports.bsky.social treatment.
79 Years ago today Jackie Robinson played his first game for the Brooklyn Dodgers. It was / is the most significant event in the history of American sports. Dodgers beat the Boston Braves 5-3 Happy #JackieRobinsonDay
Yikes!! Unable to watch tonight’s game live, so somewhat spared the carnage of the Ace getting roughed up for 11 runs in less than 2 innings. Guess mama was right when she said there’ll be days like these. Thankfully they go again tomorrow and so #RedSox can hopefully quickly turn the page.
#RedSox win second series in a row, beating Cardinals 9-3 in finale Bello’s first quality start of the season Willson Contreras had a big weekend against his former club, going 6 for 9 over the weekend w/ 6 RBIs And Story with his first breakout game of the season Sox only 2 GB of first place
