I mean LOLOLOLOLOL. In the mayoral general election, Goldman wrote in the *fifth place* finisher in the primary rather than vote for Mamdani! His district voted *decisively* for Mamdani in both the primary and the general. TOAST
Heading back to my adult home from my childhood home of Lubbock, TX and saw this in the LBB airport. How many people in this picture will Trump deport with the enthusiastic support of most Lubbockites?
And my last ones for the night: R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People, k.d. lang's Ingenue, and Radiohead's OK Computer The 90s were an INCREDIBLE music decade y'all.
Also Blue Lines. And while we're at it this is a good spot for Tricky's Maxinquaye.
Excellent choice! I'd add Rid of Me to the front. And here's a stellar quad run from Bjork, stretching slightly into the 2000s. Both the PJ Harvey and Bjork runs rival the classic runs of Stevie Wonder and Joni Mitchell in the 70s. (Could arguably add Selmasongs soundtrack for a quint)
post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden, or alice in chains Perhaps it's the whiteness of the prompt that explains why no one has yet posted the most obvious answer...
Lovely Erykah Badu concert last night for the 25th anniversary of her Mama's Gun album
The Jack Whitten show @moma.bsky.social is a REVELATION. His manipulation of paint creates visual experiences I've never had before. Literal layers to the paintings that reveal themselves as you approach them. Show also has great archival material. If you're in NYC, RUN DON'T WALK! CLOSES AUGUST 2!
New horizons in the presentation of visual art: the current exhibition at the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City is presenting scents inspired by some of the artworks. This one smelled like burning wood.
NYC's #NoKings also had a creepy surveillance drone hanging out like a hovering spider
Another crowd shot from #NoKings in Manhattan today. The mood near me was more stoic than in the first term but still with joy and hope, and also more crowded!
Crowds out in Manhattan to tell wannabe dictators to fuck off

Any São Paulo folks out there? My partner and I will be presenting a double-header talk about our research on anti-abortion movements (him) and maritonormativity (me) at the USP anthropology Department next Wednesday afternoon. Details in pic.
And pp 5-6 are an FAQ list that could also be used by activists working for similar compacts elsewhere. It takes up questions like: Isn't this just symbolic? Won't this draw more attention to us? Aren't our institutions quietly cooperating already? Check out their smart answers!
Page 4 is an appendix showing historical precedents for this kind of cooperation. It highlights shared values and existing organizations that can be platforms for negotiating a compact.
Two years ago today I posted the proofs of the into to the Research Handbook on Law, Movements and Social Change. In the opening vignette, I argued that the the January 6 assault on the US Capitol, though illegal, was also an attempt to entrench a form of authoritarian legality.
But relative to other sectors, we have advantages to leverage. And the public is crying out for leadership from somewhere. Higher ed can provide that and catalyze something bigger. And in the process, we can remind everyone of our true value, something we desperately need to do. wearehighered.org
This exciting resolution from Rutgers University Senate is exactly the kind of model I think higher ed needs: a mutual defense pact of, in this case, Big 10 schools. They call for member institutions to create a joint defense fund and make resources available to any member institution under attack.
The yea votes on Hegseth's nomination. Let 'em have it, constituents! From now until they are out of politics for good. www.senate.gov/legislative/...
My senior capstone advisee is seeking participants for her study about jury decisions in sexual assault cases. It involves reading some documents relating to a hypothetical case then responding whether you would have found the defendant guilty or not. Full information is in the attached image. Thx!
