One Knight Stand by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner 💅8/10 pregnant whimsical horse 🐎 Man the writers are having a blast, and so am I! Lots of fun, pretty silly but plenty of heart. Can mostly by summarised by mr incredible "I'm not...strong enough" and a big octopus.
The Examiner by Janice Hallett 👻6/10 ghosts in the machine🏫 @fkth.bsky.social and I have suffered at the hands of moodle and this was absolutely that. Slow as its epistolary but plenty in there, just felt like it sort of dissolved at the final hurdle by squashing its own stakes. (Secret nukes )
The Starving Saints by Caitlin Stirling 🍖8/10 Surrealist Camnibalism👉 Compelling. WACK, but compelling. Was it good? Could be. Could I tell you what happened? Probably not. Did it wig me out? Yah. I need to take a walk. I gave it an 8 for someone else needs to read this so I can talk about it

How to Cheat Your Own Death by Kristin Perrin 🥩9/10 steak experiments🥩 Ugh she got me with the mutual yearning slow burn dammit. Probably my favourite of the 3, very well shaped characters with their own mysteries, nicely balanced with interpersonal b plot. An artist mother I recognise a bit much
How to Seal Your Own Fate by Kristin Perrin 🐈8/10 china cats🐈 I really enjoyed book 1, when it was the only book. Accidentally picked up book 3 and had to back track to find 2! These mysteries are nicely twisty and I am ready for slowburn detectivism. In places it could do with a sharper edit tho
Killer in Paradise by Tom Hindle 💠6/10 unrelated poisons🍎 Tom Hindle has a good nose for mess. Unfortunately sometimes I think he doesn't trust the audience. The foreshadowing is so heavy every twist is spoiled. Good characters, strong attempts and much better than some of his others but... eh🫤
Lady's Knight by Amie Kaufman & Megan Spooner 💅8/10 poisoned custard tarts⚔️ Incredibly silly, I had an absolute blast. Dudes suuuuuuck, but swords are great. Brilliant at actually making a fuckin terrifying dragon.
Hazelthorne by CG Drews ❤️🩹8/10 identical bedrooms🍃 I cried. A book of many horrors that continues unfolding and unfurling in stranger and stranger corners. I empathised with being extremely tired, confused and gay. Thems the breaks.
