A good book 'n a brew 📚 ☕
@natterblog
Hi my name's Gill, reader of good books, book blogger. Resides at cloudy towers, where the sun is as elusive as the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Book Blog at
What a weird morning. R1 playing old dance hits from 2010 while I dust down and clean up an old Wii console that I've dug out. Feel like I'm in a time machine and knocked 16 years off my age. Look at this manky thing I found. My son bought me this back in the day one Christmas.
For all my fellow #insomniacs there's a book I'm reading right now that seems really helpful and informative and it's on Kindle Prime so worth a look if you have that. Think Less, Sleep More by Stephanie Romiszewski #booksky
The first of my reserved books from the library. Hope it's as good as it sounds. A Thread of Light by Neema Shah. #Booksky. 📚⏳
I HAVE to read this book at some point it sounds brilliant. I just saw it advertised on a book website, first time I've seen it and it's been sat there on Netgalley and I didn't know. The e-book came out in April, HB 30 July. The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances by Glenn Dixon. #booksky
I had to share this description of shoppers emerging from an IKEA, it made me laugh. Taken from The Museum of Second Chances by Jo Leevers.
Lucrative dog walk this morning for Mr Natterblog. He came home with a cast iron parasol stand he spotted in someone's skip 🙄 So now we can have the big brolly up without it blowing over 5 minutes later in the wind. Goes with my bargain £5 giant parasol I got in B&Q sale years ago.
Oh well. Everything put away. I'll take Louie to the boring old scabby park. Missing these walks already.
12 miles cycled altogether this evening and a chapter of my book read as well. Beautiful evening. And after all that riding a Belgian bun and a cuppa as a reward, though tbh the views and lovely flat riding surface were reward enough.
A much nicer, peaceful view than a crappy football pitch burnt on to a TV screen. Going to read my book now sat on a bench in the peace and quiet.
That's the third wood pigeon this year that's smashed into our front window, sadly the one this evening died. I blame her over the road with her bloody forest back garden. There are very high trees at the back of us and her high trees at the front of us, with our house stuck in the middle.
Too many books. I ordered this from the library. It wasn't due back from previous borrower until 18th. It came in today. So now juggling 3 books. One will have to go on hold while I've read this, oh and another book I'm half way through. 😵💫 The Cut by Richard Armitage.
😂 My kind of reward. But I'd do the walk after - burn it all off. Though chippy fish and chips would probably require a 26 mile walk to burn off that many calories.
I cannot walk into a library without leaving with a book. I've loads of books to be reading but y'know, what's one more. I'm on chapter 4. It certainly dives straight in, no dilly dallying with this one. Sharp Glass by Sarah Hillary. #booksky 📚🗡️
Just been listening to a song thrush in the trees at the back of us. It was funny, sounded just like someone trying out various ring tones on their phone. And so loud! Video - can't see it but you can definitely hear it.
You know what else I'm sick of looking at as well, those crappy trees waving about in the constant wind with a slight backdrop of sky that we can just about see which tends to be of the grey variety. There are pleasant views behind that overgrown, uninvited mess.
After the sheer innocent beauty of The Trouble With Sister Francis, I've moved on to this and I'm not sure I'm liking it very much. What an absolute b*stard the MC is. Really? He's horrible. And the really scary thing, there are con merchants like this out there in the real world.
I ALWAYS read the acknowledgements. 🤣 And we too have a Jack Russell terrier with 'issues'. So I've finished. Sadly the laughs are over, no more pages. ☹️ But what a fabulous story. Five stars plus a million more. #TheTroubleWithSisterFrancis by @manvsbaby.bsky.social #booksky
Look what I found in the library. We only went in so my O.H. could use the toilet. I'd seen this on Kindle before we went out so I thought I'd see if they had it. Rubbish with names so had to find her name first on my blog. And after searching their weird alphabetical layout I found it!
Well this is nice isn't it. Tucked up in bed with my new fangled Bluetooth speaker playing R1 Anthems quietly. Reading The Trouble With Sister Francis which is a laugh every paragraph nearly 😄 and best of all no dripping rain. So maybe🤞I might actually have a decent sleep tonight.
Got my feet wrapped up in a hot water bottle on this June summers evening. 🤨
Two heads, 2 pairs of eyes better than one. We're making progress? #JigsawChallenge
Why on earth I ever deluded myself that I'd have the patience to do a jigsaw I'll never know. This is how far I got and guess what? I've had enough already. You need a massive table just to spread all the pieces out. And I'm bored picking through all those 500 pieces just looking for the sides.
In a bid to find a distraction from twirling my hair every time I read a book or even just thinking, because after a lifetime habit my shoulders are broken, I got this from Asda. The dog thinks it's for him, won't stop mithering for the thing. 🙄
After weeks of plodding through books that just don't speak to me, that make me huff and puff in frustration and boredom I think I've finally found a rescue. I've read the prologue, I might actually like this. You can't beat Irish authors for spinning a great yarn.
Nearly lost my streak last night. I thought I'd read some kindle book and I hadn't. I found that out at 23.50 last night. Had to very quickly read a few pages. Didn't show up till this morning, I thought all was lost after all that time. Almost 2 years every single day.
We have a new weed sprung up in our garden while we've been away. Apparently known historically in the North as Pudding or Passion Dock. The leaves being a key ingredient of Easter-ledge dock puddings 🤮 Loved by bees, so do we dig 'em up or what. 🤷
Ugh, M6 heading Northwards towards the Lakes and M61 absolutely chokka (how do you spell that?) as we fly along the opposite side headed home. Why do people do it? Bank holidays are a no-go for us, always have been. 😬
Been more active during this week away than I've been for the whole of the year so far. The right environment, the right temperatures and a bit of sunshine thrown in works wonders. My happy place. 30 minute bike ride this evening, no potholes, no traffic and sea views.
