Finally shared the first draft of our crew briefing for Cyberpunk: A Life on the Edge #LARP just now, seems to have taken ages to get it to a shareable state. Now about those props I'm making... cyberpunk.larp.org.uk

This weekend @eehackspace.bsky.social Trustees burned the candle at both ends get our bid for new premises submitted. The Freight House is a heritage building 11 times the size of our current one, right next to a station with good links through Essex into London. If we succeed we'll be very busy.
Poundland now sell things branded "Let's connect". They make no claims in that direction but for me brown cardboard packaging like this is 'eco coded'. It has a magnetically closed flap. To recycle it you have to rip out the magnets and little metal disks. This annoys me more than it should.
I'm no UI designer but this digital training I'm working through is not exactly helpful in hinting which 'next' button to push. Only one of them works, the other two break course progression so you can't get to some sections of the module. I got kind of stuck thinking "hang on I've missed stuff"
On my road there's a guy who paints "folk art" on the side of houses and he's doing a big piece on his garden wall today. A number of the nearby houses have this on, it's kind of cute and livens up the dull Victorian terraces.
This weekend was @uklta.bsky.social 's first #LARP, Recon. It was an anthology made of multiple ~3h games. We have a history of doing slightly silly games that's been neglected in recent years but there was a welcome return to silliness at Recon. I revel in silliness, when a game demands it.
Probably a bit niche but does anybody have need of some Airbus A320 window and ceiling panels. Located with a neighbour in London E11.
In my local CEX they had a "1TB M.2 SATA" SSD lurking at the back of the shelves at a not unreasonable price. Having mulled over picking it up, because modern games are _big_, I went back today figuring it would be slow but OK. They handed over this Gen3 NVME, which is almost unused. Total win.
Cardboard engineering :-) Now to heat soak this for an hour or so running Furmark and see if enclosing this causes the temperatures to increase a lot, but signs from the first few minutes suggest this will be just fine. I can see ways to improve this idea, but have to commit and start building.
I did some CAD and made 3D printed brackets to hold the BC250 and PSU tidily and have a 'backplate' for the eventual case. This is designed to be screwed down to a wooden base as I want to do this rather than the usual 'gamer style' 3D printed cases. I need to test cooling with a cardboard mockup.
Perhaps even sadder is an Android TV so anemic the UI is like swimming through treacle. I've wiped it and am updating it. Old school stuff might get dated but will never get worse. An Android TV most likely will. It's otherwise a nice TV.
There's something quite sad about an old "smart" home entertainment product when you go into the app installer and it's a ghost town.
This afternoon I soldered up a 6-pin PCIe connector to the server PSU I bought for a pittance. The leads are short as I would like it held snug to the BC-250 like in the video. The BC-250 doesn't have a standard ATX power switch setup so I've made a latching one connected to a header on the BC-250.
I spent most of yesterday afternoon "peeling" the BC-250 heatsink and 3D printing a fan mount. It's a minimum viable setup with the duct taped to the CPU but it's working nicely. Now I feel OK to play some games and tweak the software. Next job is PSU wiring and a case. I still fancy a wooden case.
I can't avoid it any longer it's time to "peel" the heatsink which is a job everyone who does this to a BC-250 hates. This is necessary for conventional downwards airflow instead of the high pressure front to back airflow you get in the server rack.
I thought my BC-250 was dead but I'd messed up the wiring to the server PSU. How exactly I managed that without killing it I'm not sure but after flashing the BIOS to the modded version I've installed Bazzite.
These calibration cubes aren't going to win any prizes but this was a "I've a free printer a mate gave me, can you get it working because it sucks" situation and the orange silk filament is damp garbage that's been sitting in the open for months, if not years.
Checking over a friend's old 3D printer before giving it back to them. After slicing stuff with Cura for modern PLA+ it works just fine. Unfashionable and slow by modern standards and probably ultimately a bit unreliable but a printer's a printer when you're on a budget and not in a hurry.
My BC-250 showed up yesterday but as I'd agreed to do some dogsitting I had to disappear straight away without playing with it. Very tidy looking out of the box though, like most it has that new old stock cleanliness. I have received the 'no heatsink gaps' variety which will make 'peeling' harder.
I'm really hoping the BC250 shows up tomorrow, although I still haven't sourced the GPU connector I need to power it, which I must do. Yesterday the HP HSTNS-PR28 server PSU I ordered showed up and I made it deliver power thanks info in a blog by some bloke. The decline of blogs is a sadness really.
It's in the country, I'm sure people are thrilled by these updates. I've been reading the BC250 Discord a bit and it's made me aware how far removed I am from the 'gaming PC' people who are agonising over minutiae of overclocking settings. I may tweak some of this but really I just want it working.
It's in the air! I've ordered an HP HSTNS-PR28 server PSU for a pittance to drive it with as while Flex ATX PSUs are commonly used it doesn't really need ATX just lots of 12V. I had a server PSU already but it was a huge 800W beast. I've a small M.2 SSD kicking around so just need a fan now.
Got caught up in the enthusiasm for those AMD BC250 single board computer/GPU things and ordered one even though I missed when they were at their cheapest before the viral YouTube videos. I don't game really but I have been very nerdsniped into the idea of a cool project. I'm thinking a wooden case.
Hoverboard based shenanigans happening again at the Hackspace. I really must get back to my "big flat platform for attaching things to" project. I think I went too large with the tyres but until I start loading it up and driving it around I won't actually know.
