Likes words + pictures. Still here (in academia, thinking about contemporary lit, visual culture, & politics of aesthetics). Coined the phrase "It's Adam & Eve, not Adam & Jeeves" as a [bad] argument against labour exploitation.
I, for example, just read one and am about to read the other of these two stunningly beautiful comics by @decassette.bsky.social and published by @peow.bsky.social.
This cartoon ought to have an accompanying one that reads “Yes, we sent many people to concentration camps but for a beautiful moment in time we achieved a perfect image of bipartisanship.”
I really dug this movie. Watched it with my 4- and 8-year old and they both dug it, too! It’s on MUBI!
My (long) letter to my MP. Feel free to use it or adapt it to your needs if you choose to reach out to your MP. #cdnpoli
Just finished The Sound of Falling on MUBI. An incredibly powerful film, formally daring and intricate yet deeply involving and moving.
Recently finished: After the Flood by @fantomas2go.bsky.social. A great counterbalance to The Mood Machine, in that it engages with the fallibly human creative force of Bob Dylan as well as with the networks of fans and bootleggers that developed around him.
Currently reading: The Mood Machine by @lizpelly.bsky.social. In summary: sociopaths and their corporations find it much easier to do antisocial shit when the populace is passive and apathetic. And we have become passive and apathetic.
Hello Bluskees. I got my hands on some old-timey 10 inch 78s and was wondering if any of you know someone who collects them. Please note: I am not sure what they are worth and am easily duped. Here is a list of them:
I’ve been told some photographic evidence has emerged contradicting my earlier claim. Let me be clear: I regret nothing.
“Show me what comic you loved when you were 13, and that's all I need to know about you.” - Brad Meltzer Postmodern horror. I ended up writing my dissertation on how the grotesque challenges aspects of postmodern thought.
Anyway, here’s a picture of the sky taken from our backyard. My three year old and I are looking at it, lying in the snow on the ground after he, unprompted, told me that he loved me. #whyimask 😷
This is a pernicious and anti-democratic government steeped in grift and corruption. And a plurality of Ontarians continue to support them. Depressing as fuck.
