Yes obviously there was huge demand and adoption. That doesn’t mean there were no skeptics. As adoption grew, the critics diminished into obscurity. The same fate awaits the AI skeptics. hai.stanford.edu/ai-index/202...
At no point did I say they were not right about those things. Those voicing fears over the introduction of electricity were worried that it would cause electrocutions and fires — also correct.
I was there too, in the early 90’s, before anyone had heard of email, and i remember the hordes of skeptics, the deep cynicism, and the ridicule of early adopters. The analogy with AI is apt. Social resistance is proportional to the scale of impact the coming technological change will bring.
