Rep. Collins should respond to and condemn this blatant antisemitism from one of his advisors and family members - not wave it away by touting “support for Israel” while failing to even mention Jewish Americans at all.

Collins’ campaign did not address CNN’s questions regarding Scheer and his comments across social media. In a statement, a spokesperson for Collins said, “Rep. Collins’ lifelong support for Israel is unquestionable and backed by his consistent record in Congress of standing up for Israel and her people.”"

Where it leads: The virulently antisemitic neo-Nazi network the Goyim Defense League prints and distributes flyers claiming Jews were responsible for the transatlantic slave trade, part of a propaganda campaign designed to convince Black Americans that Jews are their enemy. The "suppressed history" narrative is propaganda, not history, manufactured to turn one community against another.

The trick undernearth: The 1991 book is widely dismissed by historians as “pseudo-scholarship.” Henry Louis Gates Jr. has called it "the bible of the new antisemitism."

Its authors present isolated cases of Jewish slaveholders as proof of Jewish domination, rather than asking whether Jews played a disproportionate role relative to their small share of the population. No amount of slaveholding is morally defensible. But documenting that some Jews owned enslaved people is not the same as demonstrating that Jews dominated the transatlantic slave trade or slavery in the Americas.

Why it falls apart: The numbers are not close. Historians, including David Brion Davis and Seymour Drescher, have found the Jewish role in the transatlantic slave trade to be minimal, dwarfed by the European and colonial powers who ran it.

In the American South, Jews made up about 1.25% of slaveholders, in line with their small share of the population. In 1830, four Jews stood among the 11,000 Southerners who owned 50 or more enslaved people. In 1995, the American Historical Association, the leading body of professional historians in the U.S., formally rejected the claim that Jews played a disproportionate role in the Atlantic slave trade or slavery in the Americas.

Saying someone can only support Israel because they’ve been bought is a clear example of anti-Zionism crossing into antisemitism. We caution El-Sayed and all candidates to refrain from making reductive statements like these that rely on harmful canards.

The trick underneath continued: And it quietly trades a fair question for a poisoned one. “Should we be fighting this war” is a worthwhile discussion to have.

“They are making us fight it” is the conspiracy, and it ends the argument by handing the blame to Jews.

The first keeps you thinking. The second tells you you’ve been duped, and names the Jews as the ones who duped you.

Why it falls apart continued: A rash of antisemitic claims about Israel controlling the U.S.’s military policy popped up in 2026 following the U.S. launching air strikes against Iran. But look at who actually has the upper hand.

Take for example this exchange in June 2025. When Israel kept striking Iran after a ceasefire Trump had announced, the President didn’t quietly petition his supposed master. He posted, in all capitals, “ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS… BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!” He told reporters flatly, “I’m not happy with Israel.” Within hours, Netanyahu’s office confirmed it had halted the strikes after the call.

This worldview that relies on the trope of the Israeli puppeteer controlling the United States government ignores reality and only serves to pin negative actions from the U.S. on the Jewish state and then extend that blame to the Jewish people.

The trick underneath: Strip it down and it is a victim complex dressed as analysis. The most powerful country on earth recasts itself as the helpless pawn of a nation smaller than New Jersey, because being secretly manipulated is easier to live with than owning your own choices. It is the same inversion that tells white Americans they are the true victims, being “replaced” and manipulated by Jews, while they hold the largest share of power in the country.

The move is identical both times: take the group with the most power, cast it as the group being controlled, and slot a hidden Jewish hand in as the reason.

The claim continued: In its crudest fringe form, people use the initialism “ZOG,” or Zionist Occupied Government, a term that’s been in use by white supremacist groups since the 1970s to claim that Jews control the U.S. government.

Why it falls apart: First, an important reminder: Criticizing American policy toward Israel is not antisemitic. Debating military aid, the alliance, or the decision to strike Iran is ordinary democratic argument, and people across the political spectrum do it in good faith.

The conspiracy works differently. It treats the policy as proof that the government was never really America’s to begin with, that it has been secretly captured, and that the hidden hand is Jewish.

This conspiracy has helped feed the memification of the “Jews Did 9/11” canard, turning both slogans into commonly used phrases on edgelord internet forums as well as among outspoken white supremacist groups. Conspiracies don’t care if the poster is serious or doing it “for the lulz.” It spreads regardless."

Flattening all opposition to (or support for) a candidate to Israeli control isn't commentary, it's conspiracy. Removing agency from voters is a tool to prevent good faith discussion & debate. And dismissing concern about antisemitism as purely a product of Israeli influence is itself antisemitic.

A June 5, 2026 tweet by Cenk Uygur says "If you want a handy list of people who work for Israel, look at everyone criticizing Graham Platner now, especially Democrats. I get why Republicans want to tear him down. But Democrats attacking their own candidate only happens when they are ordered to do so by their handlers."

We are disgusted that Boulder SJP chose to celebrate the firebombing attack on a peaceful march. They dress up the language to make murder sound like liberation. The reality is they are celebrating the horrific killing of an 82-year-old woman who came out to march. Nothing excuses this.
