hyden calling this album a "dropbox dump of semi-fleshed out demos" is dismissive in a way that's intentionally insulting and feels like a refusal to engage with it, and with Hall's philosophy of deep playfulness, on its own terms in a way that comes across as vaguely if unintentionally homophobic.

the whole museum felt haunted, and one of my favorite pieces, on display separately on the second level of the museum due to its scale, really heightened those feelings.
all of the actual "monuments" were displayed as-is, which is why they're covered in graffiti. the brass ingots and concrete base here are from the monument in Charlottesville that ignited the Unite the Right rally and subsequent counter-protests, and the death of Heather Heyer.
much of the art on display was itself "monumental," large-scale works echoing the scale and materials of the larger-than-life figures they were paired with.
i already shared pics of the Kara Walker sculpture being displayed separately, but i went to MOCA in LA yesterday to see the show Monuments before it closes. a selection of work by Black artists displayed alongside loaned and decommissioned Confederate monuments.
it was pretty damn good art, let me tell you. this is "Unmanned Drone" by Kara Walker.
ahh makes sense. yeah i tried starting with a cotton thread, still affordable but a little too delicate when just getting the hang of things. i did manage one successful project with it though
