Giving up and making vertical videos. Are you happy now, The Youth store.steampowered.com/app/2163160/...
The goal with this system was to give the destruction a sense of real heft and scale. Knocking over a building is a big deal and it should feel like a big deal! I also wanted mechs to feel dangerous, and being able to accidentally level an apartment complex fits the bill IMO
Got in on the Steam Machine preorder just in case I got wildly rich by the time it came out. Making sad noises as I remove it from the cart. Go. Be free you beautiful expensive cube
Just spent two weeks trying to fix an issue with unity's joint system. If you change the constraint mode on a joint in a large chain, unassign and reassign the connectedBody immediately. That is all thank u
ME: Computer! Simulate a building standing still. COMPUTER: Shut up idiot. Everything Explosion
New building destruction physics are scoring high for Drama but low for System Stability
Building destruction system for OVRLRD is almost complete! Partially-destroyed buildings which settle get baked into static meshes until they're needed again, which means we can wreck loads and loads of buildings without killing the frame rate. store.steampowered.com/app/2163160/...
Building destruction system is almost there! You can topple them into each other, plough through them in your mech, and drill holes in them to look (and shoot) through. Little more optimising needed probably... store.steampowered.com/app/2163160/...
Been programming for 10 or 15 years but whenever I have to 3D model something I'm basically a baby. Cube. Make Cube. Cube is Shape.
Thanks to my new structural-simulation code, I no longer need my navigate-around-buildings code store.steampowered.com/app/2163160/...
Finally got my stability-checker into a state I'm happy with. Buildings collapse if they don't have a strong network inside, so you don't get big structures suspended by thin strands of geometry, but you can still punch holes through buildings to create sightlines:
Just learned you can hold down Alt in the Unity scene view to zoom towards the cursor instead of the focused position. Not super useful but one more thing to fiddle with while you think #gamedev
Buildings can topple into other buildings, causing chain reactions and also (for now) breaking all of physics #gamedev
I'm working on a Red Faction: Guerilla-inspired building destruction system for OVRLRD. Slicing up buildings with laser beams wheeee store.steampowered.com/app/2163160/...
Thank you! I would love to do a proper simulation on this but the limiting factor is always hours-available-to-spend. I should probably write a blog about doing a stupid thermal effect without having to research anything, but this is roughly how mine works:
Finally fixed an issue I was having with darkness, so now black fog works to reduce your vision range at night - unless you're looking through the thermal camera or using night vision! (Night vision shouldn't work, it's currently working because of a different, load-bearing bug)
I was writing a patreon post about how I built my time-of-day system. I was doing a bit about how it handles night sky blending, and realised it actually doesn't, so now it does. Game Developmence
Noita, Starship Troopers: Terran Command, Fallen Aces, Project Wingman, STATIONBREAK, Anger Foot, Skin Deep (WILDLY UNDERRATED), Tiny Combat Arena, Fortune's Run (the most hidden gem on this list)
Took 130 points of flashbang damage seeing this archived author picture of me in 2010 web.archive.org/web/20100925...
As of today I am officially funemployed(tm). If you need anything programmed let me know, otherwise please enjoy this rotating transfemme mech for pride month
Okay #pitchyagame, take Steel Battalion, give it HOTAS and VR support with motion controls, set it in an alt-history Cold War and that's OVRLRD: store.steampowered.com/app/2163160/... #mecha #vrgames
Can anyone recommend a good localization studio who can translate from English into Australian
Paralives devs stealing search results from my boy by calling their characters 'paras'. I won't stand for this
