Arrived in Ferrol, Spain this morning: the LNG tanker Nikolay Zubov, a Cyprus-flagged vessel that appears to have arrived from Sabetta, Russia. Investing in war against ourselves....might want to speed up the transition.
Edging out into the Atlantic, a ship carrying off-shore wind turbine base "jackets" that sit under the sea. Seeing these giant structures stacked up at Navantia near the water is quite a sight/site. Beautiful morning light BTW.
That's the irony. To the left of where the Noble Voyager was being refitted, there is a continual loading & shipping of wind turbine parts. The port is going through mass electrification & most houses are electric only. But there is a Reganosa gas terminal receiving ships weekly. And so it goes.
Watching the Noble Voyager deep sea drilling ship leaving port. Capable of drilling into the sea bed to 12000 metres. During maintenance, the tower lights up at night like a tower block. A grim ship designed to pick & bleed the skin of the Earth.
The erosion along this NW Spanish coast over the last year is mind-blowing. The Atlantic is tearing into the sand dunes. 15 dead Atlantic puffins strewn across the beach a few weeks ago. In La Coruna, the sand pumped on the beach to protect from the sea blocks the entire view of the bay. Surreal.

On Saturday eve at #COP29 I watched a presentation by @rahmstorf.bsky.social followed by Q&A. At the end of a long-heavy day of interviews, I felt whacked. This session exemplified the chasm between dangerous risk we face & our empty response to it. It all comes back to eradicating fossil fuels ....
9-10yrs ago US dominated the pavilions at COP w displays of tech achievements & + outlook for the future. Today: nowhere. Chinese pavilion is buzzing with energy, so are many others. Evidence of a shift to a multi-polar world. No one talking about the US elections except W news platforms. #cop29
