I spent some time poking around the Ferris Fire footprint. As you would expect for a fire burning over several days, what it leaves behind is a mix of severities but ultimately more acres of less toasty than more toasty.
Spent a casual weekend poking around the mountains. Three years in and I still find this place unbelievable.
A photo from Benchmark Lookout showing suppression efforts on the Ferris Fire. The photo is several days old, but still impressive scooper work.
I managed to get outside and find a few hills worth hiking this weekend. Anchor Mountain 12,326'
I've hiked three summits this weekend. Potential for another one today. Narraguinnep Mountain (public side):8,982 Burro Mountain:11,553 Madden Peak:11,972
I let myself get distracted by a male downy woodpecker today. Have you ever watched a robin breathe? You should. That's good homework for tomorrow.
I went for another look-see hike in Disappointment Valley yesterday. It might be on the Colorado side, but very much reminds me of so many Utah desert hikes through the years.
The Carson National Forest was as beautiful as it was windy last weekend. We hiked about four miles and made it to a 10k foot summit.
I went for a post-work adventure over the hill to appreciate the beautiful Dolores River Canyon.
I did a bit of a shakedown hike to a summit today for Summits on the Air and played radio with a beautiful view. Nearly made it coast to coast.
All the trees bloomed out before our recent freezing temperatures. It will be interesting to see if we get any fruit this year.
Getting close to having everything I need to head to the hills and play radio on summits.
I'm not one to hand out life advice, but I do recommend getting to the top of a mountain.
Poking around looking for summer campsites next to the Dolores River. This whole area is pretty special.
Quite a beautiful day on the Sand Canyon Trail at Canyon of the Ancients National Monument.
Taking care of a friend's cattle dog for the weekend. Smart dog. Always needs a job. Very person and toy focused.
I insist on this album being played at rock out volume. It seems like it shouldn't work, but it does.
I listened to this Townsend’s solitaire's call yesterday. Wonderful highs and lows greeting the world.
I'm having my mid-February yearning for the high country. I want to eat raspberries, hike in the aspen, and set up a hammock.
Another day, another sandhill. I cannot help but love the individuality and beauty of these birds.
