While GM'ing last night, was using tracks from the FarCry Primal OST to punctuate the Big Scary Forest, and consequently went to bed with thoughts of Doggerland, and thousands of years of songs, weaving and mysticism, sunk under the sea. So, same.
Working on Boundless Space today, and one of the things that drove me nuts about the playtest was how flat and unimaginative the passengers for your far-future space trader were. Now into the full version, I'm taking the time to draw all twelve in more dynamic, floating poses. Unbound, if you will
Working on Boundless Space today, getting caught up with all of the changes that @rpdeshaies.farirpgs.com has made to that rules set since the last time @acoupleofdrakes.bsky.social and I put pixels to paper. Also, experimenting with computery menus for the layout!
The backgrounds make me think that they're trying to lean on Frazetta, but I don't know if I'd call that erotic either. I've always felt that he was horniest for the subtle play of light on all human curves. Let's see some more back muscles!
This is the funniest, worst costume I have ever seen. I'm kind of in awe of a guy who can draw this, without getting hung up on how that giant thurible would simultaneously wrap around her legs, tripping her, and also pull the hips of her bikini bottom down to her knees.
Been feeling pretty burnt out after 2 months of moving, but posting this map from my next project to the Fari games Discord.. I remembered why I love this stuff. The kid in me is still alive, and makes tiny spaceship noises while plotting a course from one port to another. I know I'm not alone.
Fellow authors: without any context, what's the first line of your current WIP? (I'm writing this one in layout, so I'm not sure if the art counts as context)
Haven't posted much the last month, as we've been moving our family back to Chicago. We've missed it, and want to raise our kid here. The drawings of robots will return as soon as I've got the internet back on!
Was thinking about this year+ old post today as one does. I had some ideas for how to use heat buildup in the Boundless engine, and put down some notes for future me to make CIRCUIT, a far-future transhuman racing TTRPG. motorball-style cyborgs simple tracks & position rules Downtime as afterparty
Nailing down the rules loop for observing and understanding the critters, plants and weird artifacts of my Scavenger's Reign-alike. 1.) Encounter alien (try not to die) 2.) Learn alien's abilities and tags 3.) Use that info to survive, tags to build new tools 4.) Survive another day on alien moon.
Boy howdy, if you, the reader, like the sound of that, you may want to give my upcoming game Solarcrawl a look. Coming soon from @pandiongames.com! (Meanwhile, I'll be giving Johnston's book a look, this stuff is exactly my jam!)
One of my favorite pieces from the past year or so. Wish I could find more excuses to draw allegorical woodcut illustrations.
My life is mostly Solarcrawl and art commissions that I can't quite share yet these days, but last night our group tried out "A Thousand Thousand Worlds" by Calum Grace, and after a whole lot of Dune-ish scheming, I got to wreck shop as a Cortozoan Death Monk named Zaire. 10/10, Highly Recommend.
This is a cat check point. Relinquish your most recent cat picture on your phone. (This unnamed lady just walked into our house off the streets. Finding her a new home will be difficult, due to her non-Euclidean face.)
The only thing I've got to say about PbtA is that I stink at writing Moves, but it was looking for those who could that led me to a lot of marvelous people, such as @ickbat.bsky.social and @notwritinggames.bsky.social. For real the Power behind the Apocalypse was the friends we made along the way.
SOLARCRAWL: Is done! Well, mostly. It still needs a last, long double checking, and then I'll be sending final PDFs to all of my incredible patient and good looking backers. Still, 8 chapters, 120 illustrations, 9 worlds and one campaign. Whew.
SOLARCRAWL: Is art-complete, as of today! Just another day or two of moving around layout to make it all look pretty, and I should be able to get the full game to backers in digital form! Finally! This one was beginning to eat away at my calm. Anyhow, here's the chapter art for "Discoveries".
Getting back around on Boundless Space, which means, per-usual, that I'm rethinking the entire aesthetic of the the thing, and changing it from colors (left) to monotones and clean lines (right). The current palettes are detracting from the futuristic feel, I think.
I'm working on two projects right now that are pretty explicitly attempting to appeal to D&D players, but will also hopefully reframe their approach away from the skin-selling and the orc-othering. Are they dungeon games? Kind of! Maybe?
Working on the discoveries section for Solarcrawl today. The game is explicitly a take on dungeoncrawling, but in NASA drag. Consequently, instead of gold pieces, I've had to run up a big, big table of fantastic elements, precursor artifacts, and other oddities to inspire your Homeworld.
It's BIG SCIENCE day at the Breathless Kickstarter, with backers now getting my game of amnesiac techs on the run from mechanical monsters, and now @pandiongames.com's game of brave researchers trying to defuse the planet-eating anomaly at the center of the Earth! Let's get that soundtrack, too!
(Also, I'm still using mine and playing this album, and now I feel old.)
I would love to be able to put a name to the very particular art style used in Sol Cesto. It's very early D&D and also Yellow Submarine at the same time.
Finally(!) I've finished the map art for all of the planets of Solarcrawl. I've been working on this one for years, and am incredibly grateful for all of you who've supported this fantasy heartbreaker. Backers *should* be getting the campaign section in their inboxes at the end of the month.
I've gone back to the well on these a few times: GURPS: Reign of Steel TMNT: Mutants Down Under The Jovian Chronicles Companion The Mecha Compendium from Dream Pod 9. (Also thank you all in this thread for getting me onto Mystara, there goes my spare time!)
Well shoot, since you all liked this so much, I thought I'd show you the preceeding spread of the book as well. I had thought about putting the credits and more computer boot-up language in here, but also kind of like it unadorned. More later, as I get it out the door!
