#WyrdWednesday It doesn't really matter the year, some themes are eternal. 'Crow in Snow' by Leo Visser (1880-1950)
Happy Heavenly Birthday to the late great Johnny Thunders, born on this day in NY, 1952 as John Anthony Genzale to parents Emil & Josephine. JT pictured here with another Rock n' Roll angel, Stiv Bators. Gone but Never Forgotten. 💔🎸🌹
Joan Fontaine menaced by Twiglets. 'The Witches' 1966. Released as 'The Devil's Own' in the U.S.
It appears that it was the Druids who started the older man, younger woman theme that permeates media & entertainment to this very day. Possibly. (art: Armand Laroche/George Merrows)
#MorbidMonday #BotanicalGothic Beautiful illustrations by Walter Crane (1845-1915) for a book entitled 'The Old Garden.
#OwlishMonday Owl in starring role on the dust jacket of 'The Reminiscences of Solar Pons' which appears to be a pastiche of Sherlock Holmes by August Derleth.
#FolkloreSunday The Ghosts of Summer are more likely memory traces than spirits, a faint reflection in the greenhouse, the scent of petals, a dried flower found again inside a book, a faded parasol that once belonged to?
#StandingStoneSunday Sort of. This large pyramid hidden in the Cairngorm's National Park, Scotland was built in tribute to Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, who died aged 42, in 1861. Perhaps she thought his soul would travel better if she honored him like ancient Egyptian Royalty?
#Caturday It's the world famous 'Catford Cat' designed by Owen Luder & Rodney Gordon in 1974. Councils have sought to remove it but the public stood strong & blocked the bureaucats. Long live the 'Catford Cat.'
#Bookwormsat 'To the Poppy' 'Summer set lip to earth's bosom bare, And left the flushed print in a poppy there: Like a yawn of fire from the grass it came, And the fanning wind puffed it to a flapping flame..' Francis Thompson, Poet & Catholic mystic 1859-1907.
#PhantomsFriday Vintage Falconware 'Ghosts & Ghoulies' jug. (1940's-50's?)
A cat never asks if you're rich, famous, or successful. They only ask one question: 'When are you going to feed me again?'🖤🐈⬛
Actress Helen Bennett showing off her spider cloak, 1939, by photographer of style, Horst P Horst.
More Accursed Furniture. Some like ghost hunter/author Elliott O'Donnell blamed the wood for having absorbed evil influences, prior to purchase.
Selfishly I'd like both #PhantomsFriday & #SpookySunday to be a thing.
#WyrdWednesday 'Henry B Norton Lost at Sea, Aged 26 years.' It is no wonder that seafarers were superstitious as the sea held many perils. Quartz was not allowed on board as it meant the ship would hit a rock. Whistling was forbidden, in case it summoned a storm whilst they never spoke of Hares.
#fairytaletuesday 'The rayless sun Day's journey done Shed's its last ebbing light On fields in leagues of beauty spread Unearthly white....' Walter de la Mare (1873-1956) Art Fritz Thalow (1847-1906)
#ThickTrunkTuesday 'I looked down at myself- I was becoming a tree!' Fantastic Adventures, 1946.
Lovely lost Lily made from shadows, glimpsed in the passing of her youth, a fragment of life before the return to nothingness, brief as a ripple on a river then gone forever. (Photo W Thomas, 1897)
I'm not a Sci Fi Fan but I am intrigued by the purple pink vinyl trousers of the chap on the cover.
Not quite up to the standard of the pack of wild goats who went on a rampage in Llandudno, tearing up gardens and terrorizing people. (photo George Good)
#OwlishMonday An owl by day. Epping in full flight illustrated by contemporary artist, John Clare.
I loathe how technology has robbed the wardrobe of the past to reframe platforms as a dull infrastructure when they were meant to be awkwardly glamorous footwear as modelled by Alice Bag & Patricia Morrison 1975. I shall always think of them that way & pshaw to modern technology.
#FolkloreSunday We are ever in the midst of creation, nature's vast tapestry, the spider at the loom, flowers in bloom, butterflies brighter than fan-dancers. What greater muse has there been to poets, authors & artists than nature, a word of creativity to those who can see. (art Percy Billinghurst)
