Here is one today at Paradise Point San Diego that let me approach to about 3 feet away.

I certainly encounter them week in week out along these very same canyon trails. Beautiful animals.

Hiking near Donghaksa in Gyeryongsan National Park, Korea, I came across this GIANT ASIAN CENTIPEDE (Scolopendra subspinipes), a species can grow 8 to 10+ inches long. It is an APEX PREDATOR that feeds on insects, spiders, and scorpions, as well as small vertebrates like lizards, frogs, and mice.
