Nyt house style does generally refer to PhDs as ‘Dr.’—it’s also ‘Mr. Long’ in the article. Though apparently PhDs can ‘request’ the title if it’s germane to their employment
i find this to be an interesting way to present things. my own sense is that Long's work has, thus far, 'pissed off' the relevant AI labs not at all, and actually they like it quite a lot
