🌼 On our quest to tackle #invasive #HimalayanBalsam across #Nottinghamshire, we were at #WeirFields in the city with a group from #LSEG. 🌼 There was a LOT of the plant, many hands made light work, we moved a huge amount and we made great progress! 🌼 Thank you to everyone involved! 👍

🦞 Why remove #SignalCrayfish? Introduced to the UK in the 1970s for farming, they escaped & spread rapidly. They carry #CrayfishPlague - deadly to native #WhiteClawedCrayfish. Protecting our #biodiversity is why we act - take a look at our species action plan here: buff.ly/GKvWMjx #Conservation

A Hazel Pot Beetle at Sherwood National Nature Reserve 🪲 One of #Nottinghamshire ’s real highlights and a UK LBAP priority species. Its rich reddish shell and reliance on warm, mixed habitats show how important shale woodland mosaics still are. nottsbag.org.uk/lbap/ #Invertebrates #Conservation
🦞 Netting is another key method in our crayfish surveys! 🦞 We sweep pond edges and vegetation, turning stones to find hidden individuals. Unlike traps, nets help us catch smaller crayfish that can escape, ensuring more thorough removal. #SignalCrayfish #Fieldwork #Conservation #InvasiveSpecies
🐛 Large White butterfly larvae feeding in early June 🐛 A classic summer sight! Their bold yellow and black markings stand out as they grow quickly, building energy before pupating and emerging as the familiar white butterflies later in the season. #SummerSigns #Butterflies #NottsNature
Last week, we began tackling #invasive #HimalayanBalsam across #Nottinghamshire! We started at #SpaPonds on Tuesday in the woodland, and we had a group of 14 including members from #GallifordTry. We made good progress, but there is still much to do! Thank you to everyone who came along to help! 👍
🦞So what happens after we collect Signal Crayfish? 🦞 Back at the table, we record trap locations, measure carapace length, and check for abnormalities like missing claws. We also note moulting stage: softer mid-sections mean active moulting! #SignalCrayfish #Fieldwork #Conservation #InvasiveSpecies
🌼 Common Centaury flowering in Blidworth Wood 🌼 A delicate summer wildflower with bright pink, star shaped blooms. Often found in sunny woodland edges and grassland rides, it’s a small but lovely marker of rich, established habitat 🌞 #SummerSigns #Wildflowers #NottsNature #BlidworthWood
