Two substantial technological advances have reshaped the public square in recent decades: first, the advent of the internet and second, the recent introduction of large language models (LLMs). LLMs offer opportunities to reimagine and redesign more decentralized, participatory online spaces that can be used to facilitate deliberative dialogues at scale, but LLMs without proper governance can also exacerbate societal schisms. Here, we explore four applications of LLMs to improve digital public squares: collective dialogue systems, bridging systems, community moderation, and proof-of-humanity systems. Building on the input from over 70 civil society experts and technologists, we argue that LLMs both afford promising opportunities to shift the paradigm for conversations at scale and pose distinct risks for digital public squares. Given that people are shaped through their interactions in public squares, there is an important opportunity to build individual capacities and collective cohesion by transforming these digital public spaces. We lay out an agenda for future research and investments in AI that will strengthen digital public squares and safeguard against potential misuses of AI.

It follows Kalshi cracking down on paid affiliates who were spreading misinformation about California's election.

Ha. No. So the "laptop" was never just a laptop. They hacked my could and there were several stolen devices. The legally blind (I kid you not) repair shop guy turned over a hard drive to Rudy and his lawyer.
They (among others) then used that data l believe to hack into my cloud. They cobbled all of the disparate data together, organized it in sinisterly labeled folders and then distributed it first piecemeal through the NY Post and then ultimately put everything on the internet. Over 29 years of my digital footprint. I'd argue it the most egregious violation of privacy in modern politics. What they found was evidence of a man who suffered for a period of time from a severe addiction to crack cocaine and alcohol. What they did not find was anything to do with Bribery or foreign corruption or any crime aotside of those related to my drug use. Short answer I don't have "the laptop " - the whole world does and they've had it for 7 years

After 2016, mainstream journalists increasingly collaborated with partisan activists. A month before the New York Post broke the Hunter Biden laptop story, Aspen Digital ran a tabletop exercise called "The Burisma Leak," organized by the former NPR and Times executive Vivian Schiller.
Aspen gathered national security reporters from the Times and the Post, a news standards executive from CNN, the editor of The Daily Beast, and the security chiefs of Twitter and Facebook to rehearse how to handle a leak that had not yet happened, and that Aspen likely had learned about from the FBI.
When the real story landed, the participants followed the script, treating the true story - that the laptop indeed showed a vast Biden family influence-peddling scheme — as probable Russian disinformation.

While I appreciate Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche's statement that the proposed weaponization fund will not be moving forward, I am still of the firm belief that there are many victims of the weaponized Biden Justice Department throughout this country.
To suggest nothing happened and that the Biden DOJ did not weaponize the law against Americans is inaccurate. However, creating a new system that is untested is problematic.
Therefore, 1 am proposing that we create a weaponization fund that will be available to those who can prove their claim against the federal government through the Federal Tort Claims Act. We have a legal system already in place for people to make claims against the government. That does not need to be reinvented.
