I paid my respects yesterday at the memorial to ICE victim Joan Sebastian Duran Guerrero in Maine. About 45 minutes from here.
Summer '73 after freshman year at the campground. My hometown friend Jacky behind me was up visiting me, and we were visiting another campsite (where a major crush may or may not have been staying). #at40
1971: 13 years old, summer after 7th grade. This looks like about the right time frame. In our back yard, rocking my brother's hand me down pants that I cut into shorts. #at40
Oh man. I've only been on Bluesky sporadically; looks like I missed some news. This was the second song they played. Here's to Dirk!
#at40 Sorry for my unexcused absence today, but I'm on a weekend visit to Bar Harbor ME with a college sorority friend and we're mostly talking. Sorry I missed, hope it was a good countdown. Pic of Frenchman's Bay and the Porcupine Islands taken from the shore path for penance.
1976: I either had just graduated or was about to graduate from HS. (I'm highlighted in yellow here.) Listened to the early show and there's a lot of good stuff. #at40
1971, nearing the end of 7th grade. A couple months before this countdown, I won the county spelling bee. Alas, I came in 8th in the state bee (darn you, Elizabeth Thurlow!), but they had a nice luncheon. #at40
Hey #at40! I believe this was from '72, when I was 14 and close to returning to the campground, where I did silly things like this with my friends in front of my trailer.
1976, fam! I'm racing to graduation and loving the Bicentennial! Still time for one major heartbreak and one hit & run romance. Here's a candid of me in study hall from my senior yearbook -- may have been taken fall '75.
Present, but distracted by life. 1972? I believe it was spring of 8th grade for me (although this class pic would've been taken in the fall '71). Into chorus, drama, majorettes.
A while back I was looking for someone to knit me a #Norwegianresistancehat. My friend Lisa offered; I received it this week. It was special for me to learn about the hats and the current resurgence because my birth-niece grew up in Norway, and now a whole branch of the family is from there. 1/2
Like omg, this is it, the compilation album. I remembered the cover but couldn't find it online, but I remembered one other song on it, and there it is. I haven't seen it since dhildhood. Link to Jo Stafford version forthcoming.
Tardy but present, #at40! 1973: 3rd quarter of 9th grade. In a couple of months, I'd be in the chorus of Brigadoon.
Hi #at40! Only here till I fall asleep. 1975 lets me resurface a sr yearbook pic of my hs love life in microcosm -- me (left), then-boyfriend (top), and first "official"-boyfriend (seated in middle; we "dated" when we were at different schools in 9th grade, and he later moved to my town).
Spirit of '76: I'm in my epic last semester of high school and turning 18 in a few weeks. These pix of my class are from our senior yearbook. I'm under the 6 (girls' pic duh). #at40
Ok, some of us in this pic incl me did a jazz dance to Raindrops Keep Fallin'. #at40
Concert report from last night's show, #at40 Pix: Mickey Thomas, probably during Fooled Around and Fell in Love, and Ann & Nancy. 1/7
My Nog went 🌈 in 2022. I rarely share him here, but wanted to wish you happy Thanksgiving with my angel.
Fall '73, my sophomore year. I'm 2nd from right (with glasses) in my '74 yearbook pic, taken around the time of this countdown. #at40
