Day 19. Desire. What is it we covet most from an rpg? Ultimately, it is entertainment, but perhaps you're looking for something a little deeper? A game is what you make it, it can be lighthearted, or it can peel you like an onion and leave you standing at the abyss. #RPGaDay2026
Day 18. Directness. Magick is an integral part of The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game. It was created by occultists for occultists, whether it be the armchair variety or those who like to get their hands dirty. #RPGaDay2026
Day 17. Intensity is the narrative voltage running through a case in The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game. It rises and falls, shaped by how the Author frames each scene and by how the Protagonists react to the unfolding mystery. #rpgaday2026
Day 16. Composure. Being calm and confident are the hallmarks of successful game-mastering. Be it as the Author in The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game or another rpg, you are the creator and arbiter. Be bold & decisive. #rpgaday2026
Day 15. Endurance. A game master needs it, a stamina of body and mind. Especially mind. My favorite game sessions are marathons, six - twelve hours of immersive gameplay. How about you? #rpgaday
Day 14. Regard. Instead of talking about our game, I want to acknowledge those creators whom I hold in high regard, that I would place on my Mount Rushmore of RPGs. I wouldn't be making games if it weren't for them. #rpgaday2026
Day 13: Strain. We approached The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game with the attitude to strain the complexities out of what we found in most systems. We are roleplayers and storytellers, not mathematicians. #rpgaday2006
Day 12: Loss. Supernaturals in The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game are often defined by loss. Werewolves struggle with the loss of their humanity, ghosts with loss of life and family, and so on. It’s a field day of possibilities for roleplay. #rpgaday2026
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Prophet and his Bride
Day 11: Tact. One of my favorite Occult Detective tropes is in their having to deal and barter with demonic forces. If you don't think that requires some tact, then you're in the wrong line of work. #rpgaday2026
Today we celebrate the Lesser Feast of Leila Waddell, born August 10, 1880. hermetic.com/crowley/equi...
Day 10. Secret. Secret Societies can play a huge part in The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game, both as organizations your protagonist is a part of, or a sinister cabal that they must oppose. #rpgaday2026
Day 9: Privilege. Let’s keep this simple. It was a privilege & honor to work on The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game and the Fire and Ice RPG with my son, author Connor Landon Freeman. #rpgaday2026
4 Favorite Movie Villains based on Aleister Crowley
Day 8. Resolve. The most important attribute for a protagonist in The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game. If you’re going to survive the case, you need perseverance and toughness. #rpgaday2026
Day 7: Mercy. Compassion and restraint. The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game can be brutal, especially for Naturals and Preternaturals. That's why we implemented Nine Lives, a way to cheat death, nine times at least. It's one of my favorite aspects of the game. #rpgaday2026
Day 6: Reach. Promoting The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game without financial backing has been difficult. We have to trust in word-of-mouth for the game to reach players. If you see this, maybe you'll give us a look and help spread the word? #rpgaday2026
Day 5: Burden. The burden of the Author in The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game is to create a compelling case that has the verisimilitude to immerse their protagonist into the world they've created. The key is to not stray too far from reality. #rpgaday2026
Day 4: Charm. One of my favorite ways a charm or talisman is created in The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game is when a psychic or magician imprints an object with a portion of their abilities upon death. Some great story hooks in this to be mined. #rpgaday2026
Day 3: Poise. Keeping you wits about you, having grace under pressure, is a key component to most RPGs, but especially in The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game because, let’s face it — high strangeness is a sticky wicket. #rpgaday2026
Day 2: Stature, as in elevated status and perceived success. As you progress thru cases in The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game one’s stature is raised in the occult community, attracting the notice of potential allies… but also of antagonists. #rpgaday2026
Day 1: Discipline in The Occult Detective Roleplaying Game is sometimes required of a Magician when a spell calls for constant patience and intention. #rpgaday2026
Without saying your age, what’s your favorite movie that came out when you were 18?

Magick comes in all sizes, big & small. I find it’s the small magicks that have the biggest impact, as they are subtle but persistent. It’s all magick, by way of intuition and intention. It’s all about navigating life with grace and gratitude, & acknowledging one’s True Will & staying the course.
I know that I hung on a windy tree nine long nights, wounded with a spear, dedicated to Odin, myself to myself, on that tree of which no man knows from where its roots run…I took up the runes, screaming I took them…
