OK what is up with all this racist conceptual baggage in Sohn-Rethel's intellectual and manual labor? It's salient that he's talking about Kant, and though I haven't read the latter in depth I've heard commentary of his being thoroughly racist.
The important thing about relating to art practice like this is it takes the pressure of ego away, not in a judgemental "you shouldnt be egoic" kinda way but in a "your life and art practice will be so much more open, depthful, nourishing because of it
I'm so glad I got this back ❤️ Cognitive Anthropology Materialist hstoriography of science
dream of continuum between glyphs and pictures with the figure on the right morphing into words and text. Painting pictures with words. Recreating piecewise in the waking world. Schematic on the left. Gestalt, ambiguous figure. Modernist interpretation of classical Sigil magic - alt txt for deets
Constrained optimization in baysian acrylic; or how I stopped worrying and learned to love the bounding box (Bauhaus edition)
I like approach the material/visual cultures of cognitive/neuro/psych sciences from a kinda anthropology, STS, and design practice angle -- all munged together. -- on another note A lot of my own graphical art is dredging up riffs on the visual search tasks I spent hours coding in psytoolkit
really interesting approach -- same approach roughly as the kinda methodology I learnt in my visual psychophysics cogsci classes with visual feature -- doing feature search type stuff except you've remixed it for analysing diffusion output. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychop...
Pasquinelli talks about this in Eye of the Master -- also refs/ Schaffer -- "The Difference Engine was not merely the invention of Babbage’s lone speculative mind Babbage had a more intimate relation with the industrial workshops as a locus of knowledge than with the universities..."
Time sharing -- watch above video for more detail -- but the key take away here is that the social division of labor and the computationally mediated social labor process was the materially generative context for concurrency -- the natural/material form of your computer is sedimented social history
What would it mean for the terminal and the GUI to blend? Something different --- that'd be about the actual infrastructure/composition of interaction for computation. From a historical and materialist perspective, 'terminals' are already blended with GUI <//> the terminal was originally hardware
Omg guys we're literally donning the personae of Asimov's 'I, Robot' -- I'm really enjoying the unironic upsurge in people using "clanker" as a luddite swear at the machines.

This pub I go to to work has probably the most decadent pub meal I've ever come across. This is called Cheesy, hammy, eggy" and it's literally cheese sauce, ham, and eggs on toast and it's delicious.
