I'm gonna binge-listen to Michael Penn's first three albums today, because a) they're perfect, and b) I require that specific flavor of paradoxically disquieting comfort food today.

Supposedly, the design borrowed directly from this earlier Halloween costume (Ben Cooper, 1954). There was even a rights agreement with Cooper until he died. Oh, and the costume was straight-up process yellow with black accents.

I'm full of controversial theories today. Another: High watermark cape stories cause an immediate, negative reaction on the part of IP holders. They must water down and recuperate, lest that level of storytelling becomes expected - e.g., Kraven's Last Hunt led to the next 40 years of Spider-Man.

I mean, if one just doesn't read X-books past like, 1991, Wolverine never has to have bone claws (which are stupid and awful). Hell, outside of the actual BWS Weapon X story, and a few one-shots, I don't care for any Marvel mutant material beyond 1988. Jim Lee sank the ship for me. [shrug]

I just got done watching the first season of Crime Story (1986-1988). 1. This show might be the birthplace of the "prestige" television trend (e.g., The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad). 2. I won't spoil anything, but I now consider CS to be a head canon extension of the Twin Peaks universe.

Have you seen Chimes at Midnight (1965)? I first saw the restored re-release at a theatrical showing, then bought the BD. I've watched it half-a-dozen times. It's a delightful mess.

Jamaica Inn is an incredible movie, chock full of epically mythical imagery. At once, both an historical tableau, and a flintlock noir. Hitchcock's pre-Hollywood movies cooked. He really fucked with genres, while also crafting the formulas for every kind of popular cinema for the next 100 years.

Either way, they've become too lazy - these kids. These "children." Sleeping . . . being held hostage . . . fah! They just lay or sit the whole time. Let us be bold! Get some industry going! We must retvrn to kids, knapping!!
