It's #BandcampFriday, & that means a new single from The Rapid Onset! Support an independent artist today & pick up the new swing punk barnstormer "Pentimento." therapidonset.bandcamp.com/track/pentim... #queerpunk #punkmusic #musiciansky #transmusic #berlin
Sometimes I can take to the streets for protests & marches, but often chronic pain keeps me at home, so I find other ways to support the frontline from the sideline. This morning I hand-painted a trans pride flag, & by evening it was flying high over a crowd of marchers. #resist #antifascist #berlin
I redid my entire studio desk to accomodate a larger powered USB docking hub that allows me to have ALL of my storage connected, plus run my interface with no noise, & have 2 external monitors, which, if you know, is a challenge with M series MacBooks. It looks great, sounds great, feels great!
Wrapped the music video shoot for #ScreamingQueens, and it was HOT. The temperature on set was also very high. 😜 Here are some photos from the shoot. The video premieres Wednesday, July 1!

Here are some screenshots showing some of my process in making the "Fridoline" music video. I made individual static drawings, usually 5 or 6 for each element, & ran them in sequence, 1 through 6 & 5-2 to get a smooth, looping cycle. You can see each frame in my media list, & my full edit timeline.
Michael Stipe on writing & collaborating: "Without someone to bounce off of, I'm nothing. With someone to bounce off of, I'm pretty close to everything."
I have a new song & animated lyric video, FRIDOLINE, releasing on Monday, June 1, leading up to the release of my DESTROY! DESTROY! DESTROY! EP on Monday June 22. (Video warning: Fast, flashing imagery) #transmusic #queermusic Get more music by The Rapid Onset therapidonset.bandcamp.com
I can't believe I get to say I've done ten years of transition. We used to say, "It gets better," but that feels even more trite now than it probably was then. Instead, in the face of all the ways which progress for trans people has regressed, & in light of the will we have always had to overcome...
5 years ago, I was on a livestream panel on the topic, "Am I Queer Enough?" Working at the intersections of faith communities & queerness, I have seen my fair share of insider/outsider dynamics, gatekeeping, & "I got mine" attitudes. The answer is always, "Yes, you are queer/trans enough."
Hey artists, post some art you made from before Bluesky ____ I experienced a severe autistic burnout in 2021 which resulted in extreme depersonalization such that I could not remember my own face. I made about 50 digital self-portrait collages over a year, recording my emotional experiences. NOT AI.
Back together! I'm also trying some new strings: a set of Pyramids. I had been using lighter gauge strings at the insistence of the guitar internet, but I wanted to go back to my preferred hybrid gauge setup. Thomann didn't have the Slinkies I wanted, but the .052 - .010 set is just what I wanted.
My guitar's wiring was about 15-20 years old, & some of the solder joints had cracked or disconnected. I was also ready for a new look, so this weekend I gave her a fresh coat of signal yellow & some new electronics. ☺️ This machine is (almost) ready to kill fascists again! #guitars #transmusic
I wouldn't say these things hurt MORE than my illness, but they are additional pains that aren't addressed at all by drugs or biologics, or treatable by surgery, & they don't come with the hope of "feeling better." Only 1 thing makes you feel less insane about it; knowing that others feel them, too.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Most people who are not into deep musical lore or are not insatiable guitar geeks may have never heard of her. Chuck Barry is noted as claiming that his own celebrated rock n' roll career was, "one long Rosetta Tharpe impersonation."
Sonically, this is the record I want to make with The Rapid Onset. Incredible riffs & hooks, immense, live-on-the-floor performance & dynamics, Glenn Hughes' massive bass & vocal athleticism, & SONGS. THE SONGS. It's musical retro-futurism conjuring all the greats of the 20th century into the 21st.
Both of the first 2 Garbage albums are flawless, but v2.0 just nudges ahead, if only for a better track order & so many varied standout songs. There is everything from sorrow & tenderness to ferocity & humor. Shirley Manson is the frontwoman we all want to be; commanding, irresistible, relatable.
The album title "Heavy Metal Music" is its thesis, & every track is a love letter to the genre. Newsted is so clearly a fan laboring less under the banner of over-seriousness, & more given to the poetic romanticism of distortion, the love of groove, & the legacy of heavy. Simply smile & headbang.
Fever Ray captivated me because of Karin Dreijer's vision of artistic invisibility. The philosophy of the work speaking for itself apart from personality, fame, image, trends was revelatory. Every song feels like its own entity, but singular as a collection. Atmospheric, emotional, sparse, perfect.
5 of my favorite "No Skip" albums: AiC in general, & this album in specific, informs so much of my sense of harmony & melodic storytelling. Jerry Cantrell's riffs & tone are the epitome of soulful grit, & the dense, multilayered harmonic structure of guitar, bass, & vocals is perfectly orchestrated
Honestly, being featured in a magazine focusing on women in music is really getting my heart right now 🥲. People from 🏳️⚧️ get it.
Here she is! This is my mobile recording board (I still need 2 long 90⁰ cables to connect the FX loop). The bass DI is on the board, but is its own signal chain. The chorus, delay, & Cloudburst reverb are new, but the rest has been awesome for recording anywhere, thanks to the IR-2.
DHL delivered my pedalboard to the wrong address, so I still don't have it, but here is the state of my board, at the moment.
